Interesting. I'll think I'll knit a new tinfoil hat.

I buy a lot of my pork from here

They sell locally around the Lichfield, Alrewas, Tamworth area of the Midlands. YOu can see the piggies from the main road and I was only remarking yesterday just how much space they have. We didn't eat pork for many years after a bad experience but these pigs have converted us back on to it. It is a little dearer but worth every penny.

I often buy their freerange chicken locally. It's very good indeed.

  • Ha. I see you couldn't bring yourself to risk mentioning infanticide. :p

That's because anthropomorphising is one of my pet (no pun intended) hates.

Hmmph. Nope. You stated piglets, lambs and calves but "young goats" rather than kids. Geddit?

    It's lost everything now...

  • Sorry, I had a senior moment :o , where I couldn't remember the name for a young goat.
  • I was listening to the car radio, earlier today, when I switched to Tower FM, just in time to catch the end of a comment by the presenter.

What I heard was "some people got blown off in Blackpool".

I think I might just have a weekend in Blackpool myself. :D
  • If you are an adult, don't try buying a catapult, or fishing line, from the 99p shop.

I was in earlier today, and noticed a sign, which read:-

"We restrict the sale of catapults, and some kinds of fishing line, to persons under 18 years of age".
    :D
  • Hello All
For once a beautiful day :j I have put the washing on the line for the first time in ages!

Today I have decided to inventory one of our freezers as I haven't got an up to date list of contents and UFO's.(unidentified frozen objects)

This freezer mainly has our home produced meat, fruit and veg plus some YS bargains. We don't produce our own pork at the moment, we buy off a neighbour, but we have lamb, mutton and beef. We plan the lamb but the mutton and beef are usually the result of lucky accidents ( not necessarily lucky for the individual!! LOL).

I have several bags of unidentified frozen objects that have lost their lables; when feeling daring I defrost and then make dinner with whatever I have.

    I seem to have plenty of meat for when SHTF, especially as a lot of it is stewing/slow roast varieties. To give you some idea I have;

    Mutton 8 kilos
Beef 43 home produced kilos and 1 kilo YS shop steak
Lamb 8.5 Kilos plus several others at my FIL farm
    Pork 4 kilos
Fruit/veg/ home made soup etc and this is only one of three freezers!:o

My other freezer is for bargains and YS buys and one is 1/2 fridge freezer in the house. I will be inventorying the others so I can meal plan and identify any items I need (if any!)

I have dug out my heated propagator and have chillies, cu's and peppers warming away. I have alpine strawberry seeds in a propagator on the window sill and peas/sweet peas planted in the greenhouse.
I have finally ID'd my brassicas growing in the garden as PSB, they lost their labels when they were small plants. I have a few leeks left , a row of chard and quite a lot of beetroot still in the ground. Anyone know if they will be edible? they look all right, not old and woody.

I hope it doesn't come in cold and snowy, although we are well prepared for anything that is thrown at us. My ewes are all heavily pregnant and have had enough of wet & windy let alone snow and ice. They are all due from 25th March so hope it stays relatively mild. FIL has 2 bunches of 170 ewes and he has most of the first bunch inside in pens as the weather has been so bad recently. It takes hours to feed etc on top of the cattle and the other bunch who have now started lambing!! Normally if they have a strong single lamb they go back out in the field almost immediately and twins are put out after a few days.

I intend to inventory all my freezer contents, food stores, preps, equipment and seeds so that I know exactly what I have, want and need. I have been adding to preps when I see a good buy but have failed to keep a list of what I have. I am going to put it all in one notebook for easy reference. Then I am going to make a cunning plan! List what needs to be done such as scanning important documents and as I complete them tick them off the list.

Anyway I've rambled on again! Keep prepping and stay safe, ELaine x
