Hoping you're all okay? Especially those in the south/west, I know it's still very bad over there.
It's blowing an absolute gale here, which is shredding my nerves to pieces! The vent in the wall in my bedroom is coming away from the wall, so had to tape that down but still getting quite a draft in every time the wind blows (which is all the time).
I am eternally grateful that I'm not at risk of flooding though.

Fingers crossed it eases off soon.

:) Well, in light of financial dubiousness, I decided to pay my line rental ahead for the year. Did it just now. They gave me about a 2 month notice of its expiry date but I figured that I had the money now and better get it gone from the account in case there's some shenanigans with the banks. The old subscription doesn't expire til late March but this way I know it's gone and won't have to manipulate the bank account to have enough to cover it.

I keep my personal accounts so what I do with pay-ahead-to-save stuff is write the monthly costs on the accounts as they come even though it isn't coming out of the account each month, I find it helps me know what the real cost of running my life is.

Did you hear that the Bank of England chair has said that interest rates won't rise until at least next year? Why on earth would anyone want to hold savings in a bank to be devalued by inflation? You're better off buying bliddy t.p.; at least you'll know you'll be using that and it keeps going up in price.

ETA do you mean the list of forums? I haven't any sign of weird 'y' there or on the main page of the overall site. Have you tried running a scan on your anti-virus program?

My flood warnings aren't getting any better.

Garage is now tarped and sandbagged, so getting in and out will be a PITA. We put another shelf up in the rafters today too, just to get more stuff out of the way rather than letting it float around.

I'm hoping I can still get out tomorrow, and if so will be doing several trips for more sandbags/bags of sand if I can get them.

Neighbours spent today digging a channel from the road to the watermeadows to help deal with a house close to the road that was getting swamped by traffic driving too fast (people seem to believe the myth that if you go fast through floods your engine won't get wet which is completely the opposite of what's true). We've also acquired some signs and cones but have to keep moving them - and are using the original cones from my garage to keep people away from the side nearest the affected house.

Not much I can do otherwise, apart from keep moving stuff upstairs, and start working out how I will block up downstairs drains/plugholes/overflows/WM outlets etc if the sewage system fails to cope...

:( (((((((greenbee))))) wishing you and your neighbours well. And anyone else who is in this terrible situation. If only those bliddy fools would have a thought for your neighbour whose home is menaced by their bow-waves and not be so ignorant!

I've just been having a look at this http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homeandleisure/floods/114720.aspx

I guess you've probably seen it already but in case it helps someone.

Many thanks for that, GQ - hope not to have to use it, but there are some very useful reminders. Here, it's the wind - we have lost a favourite tree, which split and fell with a scary cracking sound this morning. Sad to see it down, and poignant to see a pair of pigeons sitting nearby looking confused (OK, maybe not - pigeons do seem to be singularly expressionless!) - presumably they used to live in it. I really, really hate the wind; it makes me feel very nervous and on edge. And I am also feeling terribly tired - anyone else exhausted? Not that I'm in a particularly dire situation, and as we have animals (cats, horses) would tend to bug in rather than out .... but I just feel worn down by this winter. The power comes and goes, never for long, luckily, and I just move about with my trusty solar powered lantern ever to hand. Hugs to all - stay safe and dry if you can.
