I'd like to know if 4,200 watts is a lot, about right, or not really enough output, for a gas fire in an average Living Room?Plenty. Heck, paint-stripping heat guns are 1,800 watts.
I does annoy me that useful and sensible improvements in technology are likely to be stifled by vested interests. There's long been rumours of patents being bought up only to be buried and inventors paid to go away and forget about it.
Wouldn't it be fantastic if some new and widely-useful technology was posted online, went viral and escaped into the wild? I'd love to see it.
I once read a SF novel set in just beyond real time. The premises was that several large spaceships of non-human refugees suddenly appeared in earth's orbit asking for asylum. They bought their way on-planet with releasing some of their technology to us.
Near the start of the book, which is a handful of years after this event, there's a scene with two Belfast cabbies and they're talking and looking at one of their cars, which has got one of these new tech engines in it; you can post any kind of bio-mass into it, and it gets converted into energy. One has the new tech, one doesn't but aspires to get it when he can afford the switch, and the whole geo-political balance of power has been changed as suddenly oil isn't king any more.
Fascinating idea to toy with, isn't it?
At the moment, I'm enjoying the luxury of washing bedlinen by electricity whilst I sit on my derriere drinking tea and playing online. Technology rocks.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

A roadkill bird was used at one point.
And later on some murder victims were disposed of in a larger version of one of these engines, in a factory. It's an interesting premise. The aliens appeared simulatenously over several countries and made the same offers to several governments, in return for settlement rights on earth. The middle east wasn't best pleased about these new engines.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I once rented a work unit from a local farmer, he had a large grey cat that often visited me, I asked him what it was called. He looked embarrassed, muttered & mumbled & finally said 'We call him Cookie'. A few months later when he knew me a bit better, he admitted that the cat was actually called Cooking Fat, think about it!

Anyone watch Charlie brookers tv wipe. Just watched my recording of this weeks programme and couldn't stop laughing. If you like sarcastic micking taking of the media and politicians he is brilliant.
Been baking with my new baking trays, simple things please me lol.
Made oatie blueberry muffins, little vanilla buns (now iced for the kids) and a madeira cake. Yummy.
Kids decided to "help" so I ended up with cake mix in my hair and all over rofl.

We've just been and collected 4 well grown kentish cobnut bushes from a friend in the village who has them sprouting all over her garden courtesy of the squirrels!!! We had one from her last year so now have 5 planted in a line in one of the borders and two smaller ones growing on in pots in the greenhouse. These are prolific producers so I'm looking forward to some nice harvests in the future. Washing put out this morning on the line is virtually dry so I'll get it in later on and the lurcha and I have just had a walk in the sunshine in the dry which was very pleasant. Housework is done, ironing is done and supper prepared so I'll be having a read of my kindle this afternoon and planning next weeks menu, Lyn xxx.0

Agree with what has been said about vets bills. My dog has been diagnosed with a terminal condition - though I am hoping we will beat the odds. So I'm parting with money fast. I suppose I could just get her put to sleep. But how can I do that to my best buddy while she is still getting fun out of life?
We are just taking each day as it comes but am having to consider life post dog.Anyhow today while walking her in the fields I got talking to a couple of walkers. Normally I avoid strangers as she gets excited and it exacerbates her bronchitis - but I thought 'what the hell'... They turned out to be locals who are setting up abroad. The next thing we were talking about the state of the economy and then it was one thing after another on both sides. They revealed that they are setting up off grid with land, storage facilities and a safe room.. We were gobsmacked at how similar our thinking was. I wonder just how many of us are in the closet?
Briefly we are going to meet up again. A chance encounter in the middle of a field. Who'd have thunk it?0 -
Hi, hope peeps are having a lovely day. It was a v late start for us as we couldn't sleep last night. About 7.30am before we finally dropped off:eek: However just before we did we heard the most beautiful bird song which we recorded on the BB playbook. What a treat:) I'm now trying to identify it. The nearest I can come up with is a song thrush but still not 100% sure. It was dark and absolutely pouring down with rain. We live on the edge of town and near a cemetery and allotments and get the occasional strange birds in the garden but not often because of the number of cats about.
I've been feeling quite carpy this week, but this has lifted me and I feel so lucky to have heard such beautiful birdsong this morning and my spirit has been lifted and I;m feeling quite warm and fuzzy if IYKWIM. I'm quite determined to discover what it was.0
