Talking about vets - can I just give our vets a round of applause & a big thanks. Phones round vets once to find out how to de-tick a dog and all except our (now) vet said to bring said dog in. Our vet gave instructions on how to remove & advised to keep an eye on tick site. No charge. Another time Diego managed to almost rip a claw out - still in pain but wouldn't let us near so off to vet. Remainder of claw fell off during examination. No bill - just put something in charity box. Well impressed....
And when Diego became paralysed last year (OK now - he's a dachsund cross so back problems come with the territory) 3 visits to the vet, 3 injections of steriods and a cathetar drain came to the grand total of £50. If anyone in Fife needs their name, let me know - they are wonderful vets and have several practices but I seem to have most rural one.
Thank you vets....Debts 07/12/2021

Vets bills are shocking now, all because of pet insurance. But possibly also because of overtreatment. There's a lot more cancer than there used to be in dogs and cats and there is speculation that it's partly down to the systemic fleakillers that get absorbed into the bloodstream. They are nasty chemicals. Diatomaceous earth works pretty well but it will kill your hooverIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Whilst OH listens to the footie I've been bumbling around the internet and have just looked at the latest product recalls. Have put together a list of items that may be of interest to those on this thread. Heaters, stoves, carbon monoxide detectors, electric blankets and hot water bottles etc. It's worth checking through the list for other stuff as well.

How long has the torch been lit now? Any dimming?Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

At the restaurant last night I had a surprise gift from a pal; what appeared to be a housebrick wrapped in brown paper. This mysterious object had the label The Hormonal Woman's Survival Kit and contained 6 big bars of chocolate. The giver was another woman of a certain age.......I love it when people know you so well.
Have had almost no sleep once again thanks to my luvverly neighbours. I may have found it necessary to vacuum at 08.00 today. On grounds that people who keep me awake past 04.00 don't deserve a lie-in. What the beggars don't know in this block is that I have a historic love of heavy rock/ metal and a kick-a*rse 6 speaker system on this pooter which would travel the sound about 50m thru the concrete walls, should I let 'er rip.I shouldn't lower myself to their standards but, by gum, it's tempting sometimes.:p
***** GQ cackles evilly, wanders off looking for AC/DC. Motorhead and misc death metal on the interwebs. ******
What a lovely gift, was it a homemade pack or something I could find in the shops. I have a friend who would really appreciate that kind of survival kit.
I quite agree regards hovering at 8am and before I got to the end of your post I was thinking AC/DC or Led Zep:D But then I'd be fearful of escalating issues. It must be so frustrating, what a nightmare. The house next door is rented and we've had good and bad neighbours. when it's bad there's no escape and the effect on health is vastly under acknowledged. Thank god they're ok at the mo:)0 -
Seigemode, it was home-assembled from a stack of choccy bars from the supermarket. This pal is very clever at that sort of thing - very clever in general. Lovely lady.
Don't know that I need to worry about escalation as we've already been at DEFCON 3 since last summer, with me getting 2-3 hours sleep a night if I'm lucky. You get to understand why sleep deprivation is used as a torture method.
The flat is very clean now and I didn't even put the washer on until 8.40am, which was very restrained of me, I consider. Especially as they sometimes have theirs on at 6.30 am.
I will hold very loud music in reserve. Someone I know is driven so do-lally by neighbours like mine (part of the non-employed cohort) that he bangs on their door in passing on his way to work at about 7 am. Revenge for being kept awake half the night by their antics. Don't think I'll go that far.......
I'm pie-eyed with exhaustion and wasn't able to garden when I got to the lottie, so am feeling p'd off at these blighters. Not fair; weekends are my time and I should be able to be rested enough to do my own stuff.
Anyroad, all this will pass. Mebbe the tories will pass legislation about banning Housing Benefit for the under 25s and then most of these nuisance neighbours will either have to get a job (and get to sleep of a night) or get the heck outta here.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I live in what was a "mature" block i.e. new tenants should be over 40. Sadly, some neighbours who have been here for decades are a trifle hard of hearing so the TV's on really loud from 13.00 to 23.00. Midnight if there's a repeat of Law and Order UK.
(go on, ask me how I know)
And they like ALL the soaps so it's constant screeching and arguing from the latest Dramatic Plotline To Add Viewers. Add that to the breezeblock construction that carries noise through the spaces and it gets a bit ‘Keep your eye on the donut and not on the hole.’ David Lynch.

I quite agree.
We have 2 cats, one is 11 and he moved in before he was a year old try though we might to dissuade him. In the end we couldn't get rid and the neighbours agreed to our adopting him or should I say his adopting us:rotfl:He was a real hunter when young and most nights/mornings I'd be woken by the thud of a mouse hitting the underside of the bed  I became a champion mousecatcher/rescuer myself. We already had 2 10yr old moggies at the time who seemed to accept the intruder and so our little family just grew. We lost Rufy 3 years ago and he had such a huge personality it left quite a hole, however he is frequently remembered and referred to daily, he had bags of attitude and loads of charisma. His sister is frail but happy and quite vocal especially now she is deaf. We frequently wake in the morning to discover she is under the covers between us with her head on the pillow, all snuggled and content.
With regard to vets and meds etc we only give flea drops when we have to and not every month as recommended and we haven't had a problem. Vets have often given outrageous quotes and recommendations and we have resorted to visiting the rspca surgery in the next town only to discover that what the vet has suggested is unnecessary and would be distressing and risky for our little darling. Yes they are spoilt and cherished but the have felix agail and a few whiskers crunchies and various whiskers treats and bits of ham, chicken, beef and fish if that's what we are eating. Our little princess is now 21yrs old and we have never had insurance and only had to visit the vet with her 3 times and 2 of those were check ups so that we could get the prescription flea and worm drops. Perhaps we have been lucky but when we took Rufy for a check up and were given a quote for £260 of dental work we were freaked and went to the rspca surgery who said it wasn't needed. Certainly makes you think.0
