I've read that one way of doing this is to stuff an old feather pillow up the chimney just above the fireplace. It was suggested that you do this with a string dangling down as a reminder that the thingy is there.

I presume this was thought up by a woman? :D
  • I put my last £10 note in the fuel tank today

You will find the car runs better, if you put fuel in instead. :D
  • Had a look in B&M while I was out, but I couldn't find any gas cartridges

As for the weather, as I was making my way home, about 45 minutes ago, the sky was black with clouds, and a wind turbine I passed was going like the clappers.

Oh, that reminds me folks of another little money saving tip regarding fuel.

I always buy BP Ultimate petrol & diesel. Yes, I know these are dead pricey, but the increased miles per gallon more than makes up for the higher price.

The car is much nicer to drive also, as you don't have to shift down to 4th for a slope where you would have to shift down on the weaker stuff.

Also, I always keep the tank over half full in case of difficulty buying fuel. This does actually cost me a little extra for carrying the fuel around, but it is more than made up for by the extra MPG's gained by the better fuel.

I am SO glad I found this thread last year as was struck down with chest infection before Christmas. It kept me out of action (and mostly in bed) until New Year and although I could not eat much I was living off my stores as just was not able to get out. Thankfully I had enough consumables plus other necessities thanks to all you lovely people.:j:j

The freezer (and cupboards) are now empty of soup even though I had a delivery on NYE.:rotfl: Still got Christmas dinner in the freezer - am looking forward to feeling well enough to cook and consume it.

    I am so embarrassed...
To plead to the peppers, I have now brought a 16 pk for every day use, and a nine roll pk to hide in the now cleared out space under the spare bed where Christmas presents were hiding....
Is this enough to save Me ?
What other penance should I carry Out?:(

Have any of you guys recently stopped up a disused chimney? Mine whistles like a milk bottle when the wind blows over it.

Be careful because you can cause mould and structural problems if you do this, you must have an air vent fitted in the chimney breast.

I have 160 loo rolls  I calculated 2 rolls each per week so 8 a week for a family of 4
    4 weeks = 32,
    8 weeks = 64
    12 weeks = 96
    16 weeks = 128
    20 weeks = 136
    24 weeks = 144
So that is 6 months supply

I also have 24 packs of baby wipes that I turn over frequently to make sure they stay wet. Brilliant for when there is no water, you can use the wipes for washing instead of wasting precious drinking water for washing.
