Ginnyknit, is there a Freegle/Freecycle near you? There may be someone on there who has a CD player they no longer need. Hope you get your CD player soon!

Happy New Year everyone! I feel I've come home, coming back to this board after a couple of days of screen-rest, and being with family. I'm staying in tonight with the hound. It's wet and windy out there, so I shall be watching multiple episodes of Father Ted (and trying not to think how my interior d!cor reminds me of the Craggy Island parochial house - I painted over the wallpaper when I moved in, but I think it's my furniture...) Actually, now I come to think of it, I shall be spending my New Year's Eve as Father Jack - a rug over my knees, a glass of whisky in hand, and later I may swear at the TV:rotfl:

Hope everyone has a good time in their own way, and a fabulous 2014. May all your troubles be little (and cheap) ones!

    :T Happy New Year, everyone.

I'm heading offline to curl up on my cushy sofa with a small libation of beer and a murder mystery. Gotta find out whodunnit, don'tchaknow.

Hope everyone had a fantabulous next few hours, doing whatever makes ya happy, and see you all next year. GQ xx

  • You are bad, bad people. ;) I now have a craving for a cheese toastie. *Drool* But when the SHTF, I can at least console myself with the thought that my trusty toasting fork will allow me to manage at least some approximation thereof.

If I'm not around later (no real plans unless it involves a roaring fire, a cheese toastie, a kindle and a snuggle up with the OH), I'll just say how much I enjoy the company of you threadizens here. I've been educated, entertained, puzzled, and spurred into action by things we've discussed this year. And at times reduced to hysterical laughter. Here's to more of the same in a preptastic 2014. :T

Ginny if you loose your sky it can be changed to freeview or freesat. we bought a sky box for that purpose even though we had virgin at the time because there are a few different channels on it. Now we just have freesat in the front room and a freeview box in the other room. It is amazing how you can have so many channels with nothing you want to watch on any of them sometimes.
  • We are joining the bail-out contingent. DD2 is going out so just OH, me and two littlies. Don't worry there will be wine

On the prepping front my rezzies are all about getting the preps more organised. I don't have GQs problem - plenty of room at Chez SWS - maybe that's the problem :o. I'm building up my stores well, combining with second purse - they fit well together, but it's all a bit chaotic at present.

I've made a start by designating a drawer in the hall chest the power-out drawer. Grouped together wind up lantern, torch, and candles and matches. Put the tiny wind-up torches on our bedside tables in case of night time outages.

Will carry on during January by listing all my stores. Does anyone
keep a spreadsheet? I'm thinking about it - I love
    spreadsheets

Happy new year to you all no matter how you spend it and many thanks for the ideas, entertainment and encouragement each and every day.

  • :hello:Hello everyone,

Life's been a tad hectic and complicated since mid December so I have 40 odd pages to catch up and it might take some time !

Hope everyone had the Christmas they hoped for and for those that didn't for what ever reasons big hugs to you :grouphug:

We've had a very quiet one just the two of us and don't really give each other gifts as money is tight and instead prefer to just get what we need when we need it throughout the year. I was full of ideas for preppy things to buy with the money from parents but instead we decided to spend it on concert tickets instead. We don't get out much because of dosh and health so we are really looking forward to a couple of nights this year and the memories that will last.

Having reflected on the last year as you do, we are looking forward to seeing out the old and welcoming the new. We have learnt so much this year as our eyes have been opened to the real world and being prepared. This thread and all that have posted have helped so much and I feel at home and less like a nutter :D I love the caring sharing ideas, humour and compassion. Some posts have made me emotional, thankful grounded and not to mention the odd time I've almost sprayed the lappy with coffee or juice thanks to the funny stories shared.

I feel like you are all part of my virtual family even if I only pop in to add a comment occasionally, so glad you are all here.

    Happy New Year Everyone.
