Wild and woolly yesterday evening (the weather not me). Some power cuts over the border in Lancashire. Black ice this morning but wintry showers forecast over the Pennines later today. And I have a major dental appointment in Ilkley late afternoon :(. Just loading up the car with wellies, grippers, thermals etc etc. Plus some winter grit and a shovel. I'm determined to get there (and hopefully back)!
Will we see any gritters on the roads? Silly question maybe :D
  • One thing I did feel last night when the wind was roaring and the rain was on the windows like a hose, was that it could do whatever it wanted, we WOULD be able to cope because we have EVERYTHING necessary to cover life should the power go out or the supply lines get disrupted for a while and that was a very satisfying feeling indeed. So I'd just like to say a massive thank you to MAR, VANOONOO, GQ and PREPAREDATHOME(who I hope still reads along and keeps up with us) for taking the suggestion to revive the Preppers Thread all that time ago seriously and setting us on our way. For me it has been an real life changer and having decided that yes, I am a prepper, to have like minded friends to wrangle ideas with, take advice from, learn from thier experiences listen to thier good humoured banter is a thing beyond value, and has given me so much confidence I didn't have before being part of this group of friends. You're a super lot you know? long may we continue, Lyn xxx.

And god bless all who sail in us!:T:rotfl:
TY MrsL...but what you do if the roof blew off??:eek::D
    I know. I'm bad!
  • I agree Mrs L - I really missed my friends on the island when I had to move to the mainland, but it's lovely to be among like-minded folks again.

  • And agreed here too, Mrs L. :T

It's nice to feel amongst my own kind ;) (sorry if that scares you...), and not to feel daft for keeping an heir and a spare of most things.

And mar, my MIL's roof did blow off, albeit many years ago. She, bless her heart, slept through it completely, and had to be woken up by someone from the next block to point out that her house was no longer the shape it once was... :p She seems to have taken it completely in her stride, as she does most things. :D
  • MAR I'd have moved anything valuable downstairs into a watertight room and them taken the camp beds and sleeping bags out to the summerhouse in the garden where we'd be snug as bugs. We have electricity laid on there and the kelly kettle is in the shed just across the lawn, we have an outside tap so can get water at need and pop back into the house for the loo, and enough food stored in the larder cupboard to see us through at least a week, I think we'd be OK!!! Lyn xxx

What was your crash outside last night? nothing serious I hope x.

Oh forgot to look, didn't notice anything drastic Mrs.L.
  • Good, glad it wasn't serious. We had a real crunch/crash just outside the kitchen door at 9.30 ish and dashed to look and the wheelbarrow which had been propped up on the side of the shed had plummeted down onto an empty compost dustbin, but it sounded an awful lot bigger than that!!!

DD rang me last night, scared witless as she had seen a shadow go past her kitchen window  her OH wasnt home from work but when he got in he went out and it was the cover off the bar-b-que floating around :o

I also thank heaven for the thread. the last 2 days we have been totally floored by a bug and I didnt have to leave the house once. I had every medicine known to mankind and all kinds of tasty comestibles. The children were happy in the knowledge that we were well covered and long may it continue! I did the last couple of bits of gift shopping online apart from nipping out today for an hour to grab some £1 shop and Wilko's bits which we could have lived without but was nice to have no pressure.

I even managed to buy some scrummy shaped choccies online and get the order in time for last delivery day - such excellent customer service had to be seen to be believed!

Turned up at dentist like a bag lady lugging half a ton of winter kit. :D But no wintry showers as yet. Doom postponed yet again!
It might be a while before I can chew on solids so glugged down a glass or two of Irish cream. Well it's almost food! :rotfl:
Caught a bit on Radio 4 today about some study into the value of anti bacterial products (don't think this includes alcohol based gels). They suspect that antibacterial products might be contributing to 'anti microbial resistance' as well as possibly affecting hormones. In other words our obsession with germs might actually be making us worse off.
