Just watching Sky News, regarding the ceiling collapse at the London theatre.
I'm a keen theatre go-er, and when I see a performance, it is a concern to me what would happen if there was some sort of incident.
My main thoughts have been about what would happen in the event of a fire. I do like to be at the end of the row, so I could get out easily, and I make note of where the exits are. It would be difficult to get people out in a hurry, and these old London theatres have narrow winding corridors.
I'd never thought about a chunk of ceiling down, it's not a good situation.Early retired - 18th December 2014

We were in the Queen's Theatre right next door. A stage manager came on at the interval to tell us what had happened because no one was allowed to leave as the emergency services had sealed off the surrounding streets. We were up in the gods and everyone was looking at the elaborate ceiling and the huge chandelier. When we did leave via a side street there were so many ambulances screaming past with blue lights. We were very thankful to get home. Everyone in our theatre was saying to each other "there but for the grace of God..."It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Well doing the couch thing again tonight, in some ways its quite nice to have some peace and quiet on my own lol.
Sat here with the lappy, a quilt and blankets, propped up on pillows withe fairy lights to take the edge off the dark. Cats keep mouching around and every so often one decides to lie on my legs lol.
Got A-ha on the headphones-still my fav band even after all these years.
OH has been plucking away today, the turkeys are hung in the outhouse where its cold. The lady who owns the house/land/smallholding says she probably won't have any animals again as she is semi retired and the dr says she needs to cut back and reduce stress levels. So even if the developer doesn't buy her land she wants to wind things down. She has asked if we want any of her chickens as she wants to start giving them away. Trouble is already have 6 so not sure what I would do with all the eggs. I suppose I could start selling some lol. She has a few pure breed silkies and the like, so may have some of them, our current coop takes about 10-12 full size birds supposedly, so I we think perhaps we could take some.
One of our girls is over 7 and still laying-she is the last of our first batch of chickens, sometimes she stops for a few days and I think she is stopping because of old age-we will keep her anyway lol. Then I go out an alongside the other eggs will be one of her, frankly enormous eggs.
Just wish we had some spare cash, you can get agri land around her for around 5-7k an acre and with it being a farming area quite often land does come up for sale. Just under 7 acres up the lane here now for sale at around 40k. What winds me up is that is probably not even a years bonus to some banker type, but to us its a fortune, but would mean we could live the life we really want.
Sorry rambling a bit tonight, its these steroids can't sleep. Saw GP today and he says my chest seems less congested than last time, going back in Jan for a review of my medication, looks like it may be going up again.
Could do with getting back on my feet quickly as need to get the last of the Christmas food shopping in and have a tidy/clean around for Christmas.
Had a funny thought today, wasn't it in TPTB's interests to "encourage" the move from local produce to the supermarket system as in the former less petrol/transport is used and I'll bet much more swapping and deals for good customers being done, all of which producing less taxes?

Sorryimoved, sorry if we're shattering images of Olde Englande (and the rest of the country). You can still find villages with thatched cottages and roses around the doors. They're mostly owned by bankers, or as we spell it over here, bankers beginning with a double-you.:p I'm in the middle of a walled cathedral city. We have tourists from all over the world visit us. Well, not actually visit my neighbourhood, unless they are seriously-lost.

I'd never thought about a chunk of ceiling down, it's not a good situation.Just seen the newspaper online.
I used to manage the box office of a very small regional theatre. Theatres have a special code if a fire is detected, to alert insiders to start the evacuation. You don't yell FIRE! in a packed auditorium.
The code is Mr Sands is in the building.
If you ever overhear that said between theatre staff, be ready to evac and follow their instructions exactly. Certain rows will have been allocated to certain fire exits, as it takes time to file in and out of a building and if people panic, it may go very badly in an emergency.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I am still here, not yet been whooshed away from muvva's third floor residence even though it tried really hard to get in the other night!
All I need now is the fresh stuff that you can't get too early, like narners & a lettuce. If I had the a/ the room & b/ the money, I'd have a garage-sized building with freezer & fridge set up inside, so I could avoid the shops all together in the last 10 days before crimbly
As it is now, when muvva doesn't feel like going out, I can make a meal of some description with the goodies I have smuggled in to her store cupboard. To understand our relationship, muvva is a bit of a minimalist when it comes to stores, using what she has till almost the very last scrape of the jar before getting another one, whereas I am definitely the heir, spare & stick-it-in-there kinda galCan you imagine the 'discussions' we have sometimes!!! but I've proved the worth of my endeavours on more than one occasion!

She sounds exactly like my mother !! I grew up with empty cupboards lol0

calm here - off to Dundee for a couple of days, so if winter could step aside until Monday t'would be appreciated. This is where I get to go to all those stores you always mention, only to realise after 10 minutes what a con the whole shopping thing is. Doesn't take me long to realise that if I've managed without it the other 11 months I probably don't need it. So, I have a short list for the haberdashers/knitting stall on Dundee market (fantastic), a scout around a bookstore to see what I'm missing and a request for a vanilla scented candle! Also a browse in the indy toy store. Not much chance of my commerce addressing the shortfall in the economy then?
Am leaving youngest at home to tend to the stove - it's like the olympic torch - never allowed to go out!
happy prepping, WCS0 -
Know how you feel re the stove ! and yes, re the shops as well. I sometimes do that with Edinburgh big shops.... get all excited and rush in and out of them all to end up wondering why on earth I bothered! Have fun anyway, a change is a s good as a rest0
