BB and GQ - pity you two live at opposite ends of the country - you have more in common than is sensible!!

How about JK0 & GQ? Would we be a happy couple?

You need to stop him eating it, or he'll develop tinselitis. :p
BB you've made me splutter wine everywhere! Drinking wine is a prepping necessity, I need to acquire 30 wine bottles to bottle the YS wine kit picked up a few months ago - who would have thought they would YS wine kits? Have been catching up with posts and not posting much, too busy with work in the run-up to Christmas to undertake much prepping activity (apart from the wine, of course :rotfl:).
I love the expression "wombling", but I'm not surprised that SorryImoved is baffled by some of the lingo, we are after all two nations divided by a common language :)
I'm mostly an "official" wombler via fr33cycle, it's amazing what people throw out. We do our bit in the other direction of course, nothing goes to landfill if there is a prospect of someone else getting use out of it if only for firewood.
I can;t remember who suggested the programme American Blackout some pages back, I've been watching it on utube, a bit unrealistic I thought in many ways but has definitely put me off taking the lift where the stairs are an option

I have found an even better Power Pack inverter today:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BQCI314/ref=pe_385721_37986871_TE_item

This has double the battery capacity of the other one which I have cancelled.

At present I am downloading a new film called 'Money for Nothing: Inside the Federal Reserve' which looks interesting. Trailer here:

    It's £12.66 to download.
  • Greetings, preppers - may I pick your brains, please? I need to buy a new torch - needs to be pretty bright in case we need it to find a sick horse, or a lost Jeeves, or some other nocturnal emergency. I would like it to be rechargeable, and ideally also solar powered as another option. Rugged and well made, and of course not too expensive! Any recommendations or suggestions very gratefully received ... TIA the cake x
  • Tornado came through my town yesterday. Blocks away homes were damaged. Now I'm not sure if all my preps are worth it. If everything gets destroyed in seconds it seems a waste. Phone alerts went on until the last call at 3 a.m. No basement here so I'm trying to figure how to keep supplies from flying away!

How does he balance, without a tail

I did some work with vets a few years ago, and was told that they very quickly adapt. And after all, the Manx breed are born without tails.

They adapt well if they unfortunately lose a leg as well. I used to know one who would run so fast up a tree that you couldn't actually see it had only 3 legs until it stopped :)

An ex neighbour / FB friend has adopted 2 cats with 3 legs each (if that makes sense).

:p I dunno, I go offline to catch up with the dishwashing and the ironing and come back at brekkie to find I've been partnered-off by you.

I'm not in the market for a bloke (come back, guys, you're safe) and far too wilful and bliddy-minded and fond of my own way to share living space with anyone. Waited to long to get my own space and love it too much.

Re tailess cats, my family had one for a decade. She'd had her tail accidentally bitten off my her mother when she bit the umbilical cord. It's not a particularly rare phenomenon. She had a stump of about 3". It didn't look gross. In fact, because of her stocky build, with long back legs, people took her for a Manx.

I would say that if anyone is thinking of taking on a kitten who had lost her tail in identical conditions, please be aware we ended up paying for a surgery to reduce the remaining tail by one joint, so that there would be a cushion of flesh over the end, as the poor darling was being tormented by the pressure of the growing tail against her skin. And then for an emergency vet visit when she ripped out the stitches and blood went everywhere. There are several arteries at the base of a cat's tail.

We also think the lack of a tail to balance is why she broke her leg. Neighbour saw the cat balanced on the top of an 8" tall laundry post, winding up for a jump into their big leylandii. It was a bird hotel and used to drive her spare. She hurled herself into the tree and the springy branches threw her back out again and she fell about 15 feet and landed heavily on her back leg. And broke it. Might have been able to land better with a tail to balance her descent. I think they do that.

That was a memorable 1980s Xmas, with the cat with her leg in plaster in the cot formerly used by us kids. The cot was to try to keep her still enough to let the leg heal. We took her out regularly for cuddles.

We put tinsel and baubles on the outside of the crib, and chickenwire over the sides to stop her wriggling out. Gawd knows what anyone looking through the window would have thought.:rotfl:

She was very cute but as thick as two short planks.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

I'm glad that you are okay!
But yes, that is one of my worries as well. We are not likely to get tornado's here, but we could flood.. or burn...

I don't know the answer to that question either and I too ask it some times.
