Fellow mutant here. Forgive the de-lurking, but had to comment.

I myself gave up on upper body undergarments some time ago, being of a body type best described as a tomato with 2 pimples.:o However, would something like this be useful ?

:) Ooh, that looks a definate posibility. And don't apologise for delurking, it's not a private club, please contribute wherever and whenever the mood takes you.

Weeelll, as part of the clothing debate in the car with my pal, Bravissimo got another thumbs-up and apparently they have a premises in our city, so I will try to pluck up my courage and darken their door.

I'm told by the pal that they can size you up just by looking at you, which alarmed the heck out of me; strange women staring at the boobies, not quite comfortable with that. Much more a garden centre and hardware store type of shopper.............:rotfl:

Hey-ho, I should stop being such a baby. And M & S have lied to me about their sizes this afternoon, as if the 42 and 44 only starting at DD cuppage? How very dare they! Is my custom not good enough for them?

Had a nice visitiod in The Sticks with pals and their cat came and cuddled on my lap. The adorability of it. We had to end early as it's a work night for us all and we're mostly responsible citizens.

Errm, just re-read that above and thought I should make it clear that I didn't mean the Bravissimo staff are strange women, just that they're strangers-to-me. Not to comfortable getting the kit off in front of strangers, being whatever is the polar opposite to an exhibitionist.

    Shy? Introvert? Modest? British?

It's going to be a trying few days. I need to buy some under-pinnings and a hard-drive. Lingerie and computer shops - scary.:p

So glad that there are others of the Not Dressing Up Club here, out and proud, as it were. I recently read Miranda Hart's autobiography and she's amusing on the subject of clothes.

When she takes over as the ruler of the world, we shall apparently be issued with:

    1 x governmental weekday outfit
    1 x govenmental weekend outfit
1 x standard party kaftan (unisex)

    And clogs.

Now, on reading that, I did feel a certain wistful sense that life would be so much simple in Miranda Land..................:rotfl:

ETA elisamoose, it's not small, the lingerie area takes up a whole floor. Acres of the bliddy things there were. Canyons of cuppage and enough lace to drown Belgium. Just this discriminatory hardly-anything-over-40 bandwith thingy going on.

ETA v 2; VJsMum, I have one of those bite guards, mine cost £75 also (private also). I tooth-grind and was busting up my own teeth. Dentist puts his hands on either side of my jaw and gets me to close my mouth and there's this clicking sound. They call it crepitation. You can also see stress lines on the cells of the lining of the mouth when you're tooth-grinder; they heal in about 2 weeks if you can be stopped doing it.

My dentist never said that my jaw might lock and the creptitation is negilible since I started using the guard but I did manage to bust up one of my back teeth before I had it thanks to horrible stress for nearly two years.

Getting dressed used to be easy before they invented fashion.

Now you need a wardrobe the size of an abattoir freezer and enough garments to feed all the moths there ever were and ever will be.

I use sloggi double comfort tops. Have done for 15 years. Lovely and comfy and no cup sizes at all.

Can't fasten the 'real' straps on the other things.. useless hands.

I only climb into a 'real' unmentionable when I have to wear something for a cursed dress up event.

:o Ummm, have long been a proponent of the Sloggi knicker but have never tried the tops. Can I ask ,do they hide the pointy bits? As in, would they be decent under snug-fitting tops?

 so there I was sitting in the dentists chair awaiting my usual "everything's fine, just a scale and polish", when "open wide"

    CLICK went jaw

    "Does it often do that?"
    "Not really"says I

    Open again

    CLICK went jaw

Within moments I had a mouth full of that revolting pink stuff that makes you gag, was £75 poorer, and a mouth guard is on the way with the threat of surgery if I don't use it  apparently I am on the cusp of my jaw clamping together permanently  t'would be a good diet I suppose. :D

Strangely the 75 quid is the private rate - the NHS rate is £214!!!

De-lurking for a sec, and sorry if I am speaking out of turn. :o

I was told by the dentist not to click my jaw when I was a child, then a few years ago I was diagnosed with joint hypermobility. Which means my joints (including my jaw) move more than they should (loose ligaments etc) I can't not click my jaw it's just the way it is.

I'm not suggesting you have the same thing, but I do agree with others when they suggest getting a second opinion if you can.

I hope it works out for you.

    GQ

The staff do not look at you "au naturel" like a medical exam.

They look at you dressed in top and trousers and maybe in the bra you already have, then suggest a size to try, leave you to change into then then adjust ideas from there and bring more bras to try, leave you to change and them look at the fit with you.

  • GQ have you tried online? I use fashionworld / simplybe / naturally close. I use all three because actually they are all the same company under different brandings.

I'm going to have to find a tape measure, because there has been definite deflation this year (all over I hasten to add!)
Not heavily in debt, but still trying to sort things out.

In my case it might be decrepitation :rotfl:

Thanks all, the guard is coming - I've looked up pictures and it doesn't look that bad. If it helps me with the clenching / grinding thing then it will be worth it as I can wake up with headaches and neck aches.

I won't go to anything more invasive without another opinion though.

Probably not, insufficient padding. It is such a blinkin headache, just getting a simple thing isn't it.? I hate clothes shopping.

Sainbury's do their own version of these and a lot cheaper too :) Quite thick and supportive - a bit like swimming cossie material.
I hate buying bras and underwear - can never get the size quite right but these are very comfortable and do the job for everyday wear.
Spent a lot of time tonight trying to work out how I can wriggle out of the office Christmas Lunch tomorrow....I'm working in another town so it would entail a 38 mile round trip [travelling in my own time and at my expense] on winding country roads to go eat a lukewarm pub lunch . . . . . I have already paid for the meal but feel I would be cutting my losses if I didn't go
