Siegemode, the price of the KK doesn't vary much no matter where you buy it. I got mine of the company itself. Very impressive service. Have the stainless steel 1.5li Base Camp model. Wouldn't go for a small one unless you needed to take it backpacking or something similiar.
If you think about it, if the grid was down you would be wanting hot water for more than just a cuppa and 1.5 litres doesn't go enormously far in the grand scheme of things.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

daz get him to a doctor as soon as you can preferably A&E. Paracetamol taken in quantities can cause all sorts of damage and any unexplained bleeding needs to be checked out.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Thanks:beer:
That's the size I've looked at. We have a small gas stove and a trangia but I like the idea of the KK with so much free fuel about.0 -

Contains 11 LEDs, and works off 4xAA batteries.
Seems quite bright, but I'll know more when it gets dark, and I can try it out properly.
Looking forward to knowing more about this!
I have a birthday in Novemeber, I wonder if I can convince anyone to contribute to a kelly kettle? I go camping/larping quite a bit so it wouldn't be such an unusual request hehe.Spam Reporter Extraordinaire

I have been trying to keep up with the alternative news sites and find so much that worries me. Not just because of the impacts it will/may have on ourselves, but now because I'm on the verge of becoming a step nanny. As we await the call from the hospital to confirm labour has started I can't help but worry about the little ones future.
Congrats on your impending new arrival, I hope everything goes well! I worry about how I can best bring up my younglings (2 and 5 and another on the way) to cope with declining comfort levels. There are practical things of course - teach them to cook, garden, manage their time and resources and a good all round education. I think most of it however comes down to attitude and confidence and it always will, so I will do my best to foster that.
I lived in relative poverty veering towards catastrophic throughout periods of my childhood - no hot water, central heating or flushing toilet, a handful of working electrical sockets and eating microwavable tins and stuff when the gas got cut off for a few years. But I always had the library and cheap books from the charity shops, whiled away evenings knitting up scraps of wool and had a huge thirst for learning that has stayed with me. And looking back, my childhood was OK, better in some respects being that it was 'unplugged'. Also terrifying at times, but the memory has just spurred me on to take my Guide oath seriously - be prepared. Hence I am here.
Incidentally, I watched the film Four Horseman today, it was very good. Preaching to the converted but still nice to be reminded of how things are actually going whilst we rearrange deckchairs on the Titanic.0 -
Sounds like a tough childhood gave you an excellent grounding in the really important stuff and that you will be able to pass this to your little 'uns. More power to your elbow.
Could you tell us a bit more about this film Four Horsemen, please? Is it a new release? I don't get out much to the flicks but if it was really good I might be prepared to make an exception.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

We just had a situation where the lights went off. DS was here alone as I was taking DD to her swimming lesson. Actually he said that they were off for only 2 minutes but I did wonder about if he were here without light for longer so I need to think about that.
I thought I might put a wind up torch in each room so that he / we weren't stumbling about looking for some light and I wouldn't want him messing with candles - he is 14 1/2 but not responsible enough for that.
also I need to explain how he could eat - light the gas with a lighter thing rather than a match and can listen to the radio
I was also thinking about the Kelly kettle as I realised that if I needed to use that I would be stuffed as all the twigs and other fuel is sopping, so I need to gather some, dry it and store properly
A two minute powercut and then all that thinking!;)I wanna be in the room where it happens0 -
:T Thanks for the reminder; I have been meaning to gather some KK fuel, mixture of natural and cardboard, for to keep dry and handy in case I need to deploy the kettle down at the flats. On the covered walkway, not indoors, I hasten to add.
Now, I just had a random thought; I have made 2 buddy burners and haven't yet deployed them as haven't got a pan support. Would anyone know what would happen if you put a buddy burner into the firepan of a KK and lit it? I assume a good fast boil and then the BB could be extinguished with a metal plate or summat? Anyone tried this?
I might have to have a go at the weekend on the lottie. Purely in the interests of science, y'unnerstand.
If anyone has a BB as part of their preps, what will you be using to hold the pot/ billy can above it? I'm guessing anything sitting directly on top of the BB's tin would extinguish it.Good job I don't have a garden or I could see me out there now having an experimundo.

GQ the easiest thing to stand small heating devices in is a secondhand frying pan from a charity shop, it's even got a carrying handle that way to save your fingers from the heat!!! Lyn xxx.0
