  • Don't know if they're available in all branches, but my local ASDA has, in their £1 or less aisle, twin packs of unscented 28 hour pillar candles, for 50p.

    I've just bought 2 packs.

I also got an 80 hour, mulberry scented one, for £1.
  • Hi all
Another beautiful day outside. Garden is looking good and veg are doing away so I can sit and enjoy it for a bit before I need to deal with any gluts :T(she says in hope).
We have spent so much time sorting out the garden over the last year or so the house is looking a bit sorry for itself, so started to give it a bit of TLC and stripped and painted the windows. No point storing bits and pieces if the house is falling about around us :D , so starting to sort out what needs repaired before the weather takes a turn for the worse.
I also had a clear out of my clothes, I had far too many things I never wear so a number of bags to go to the charity shop tomorrow, feel so much better being able to see what I actually have.

Im enbarrassed to say the dehydrator was covered in dust (hangs her head in shame:o) so gave it a clean. I want to dehydrate some veg this week, especially any British onions I can get my hands on, I get very annoyed when I can only find ones from egypt or china, and I start to rant like a mad woman in the supermarket.

Hope everyone has had a lovely day whatever you've been upto,
    Hugs WLL x

may I suggest investing in a couple/few of these.

    £1 a piece from £world.

While they do appear (based on a highly unscientific test) to fractionally increase light output, compared to a naked tealight, more importantly, they shield the flame, thereby reducing the risk of fire, and prevent the tealight being blown out, by a draft from an open window, or a hastily closed door.

They also enable the light to be moved, with a greater degree of safety.

westlothianlass I don't think British onions are ready yet. There is always a gap from last years to this years.

Sorry to keep going back to this subject, but I think I've found an excellent (and cheap) solution, to bulk, potable water storage.

    And here it is.
    254522_5.jpg
Costing just £8-99 each (or £6-50 if bought in twos), they have a capacity of 80L, but even if you only fill to around 60L, it's still quite a bit cheaper, per litre, than 25L jerry cans.
  • Thanks grandma, I thought that might be the case, I'll keep my eyes peeled :D for when they are in stock .

BOB we had a problem with our boiler (now fixed) hence the stoopid bills..

Clootiesmum THANKYOU SO MUCH!! Just used the online thingie and reduced it back down to what it was before :T:T
This should be fine as our bill was £300 less this quarter!

Phew melting here and had to put the dehydrator on last night which ain't helping!

Garden is doing so well I'm really pleased to see everyones crops are doing well around the country.

Prepping for Rosies leg op now we have a crate already thankfully although she doesn't use it and have just asked on the pets bit for any tips.
Pineapple I'm lucky that we have insurance but not looking forward to our renewal later in the year..I may need a lay down when I get it lol..

Right gotta run outside and dibble some leeks in catch you later XXX
  • Just watched the movie Contagion.

I'm referring to the one with Matt Damon and Gwyneth Paltrow, rather than the one with Bruce Boxleitner and Megan Gallagher.

If ever I needed a reminder, that prepping is a good idea, this movie is that reminder.

Even just the petrol protest a few years ago made a shortage of food etc on supermarket shelves. Being in a small town at the end of line meant we ran out of things even quicker.

Whether it is job loss, illness, sudden huge bills, power cuts, strikes, inflation, natural disaster or whatever I can't see how having some essentials at home so you do not have to go out or have to spend high prices because of shortages can be anything but a good idea.

For me it's more a fear of financial shtf or an extreme winter, but the uncertain times we live in and fears of unrest, shortages or viruses are never far from my mind. So I prep for the most likely and hope that in a worse case scenario I will be better equipped than most. Having said that I'm not sure that I would have the strength and health to enable me to cope in and eotwawki event but who knows I'll give it my best.

My current priorities are staying warm this winter. Ensuring a supply of drinking water be it bottled or collected and filtered with a katadyn filter. A couple of stoves and various fuel types and plenty of pillar candles and tealights in case of power cuts. As for food we have enough to get us by for a few weeks or so and we'll eek it out to last as long as we can. We won't starve for a while and loosing weight will be a bonus:rotfl:

Really need to work on the weight thing and fitness because the ruck sack I have is too big and will be too heavy once laden for me to carry it. I think I was a bit ambitious when I got it and need to rethink the whole bob thing:o
