Thanks for reminding me about the Paleo diet as well as the traditional low carb ones.
As she has just announced she is abandoning carbs (only to make an exception "If Mum makes her home made bread!") I am not banking on her doing this for even a few weeks and am not planning on making extreme efforts only for the fad to die out after a couple of days. With four dds I have gone through the veggie, low carb, low calorie , low fat, no fat and" Uncle Tom Cobley and all" diets for more times than I care to remember.
DD has finally tracked the parcel she was expecting to find someone took it and signed for it last night - but not someone in this house so frantic phone calls to track it now. Sigh!"This site is addictive!"

I'm going to buy in some Bread Flour futures, I reckon that 1 x 1 1/2 kilo bag will make 4 loaves of bread in the breadmaker and one loaf will last the two of us for a week if we're careful with it. So if I buy in 13 bags of Strong Bread Flour and do the usual zip lock bag and into the freezer for 48 hours to kill off any potential pests then leave them in the zip lock bag to store them, we should have a years worth of potential bread in store and a little feeling of peace of mind. 13 bags isn't going to take up too much space in the store and if I buy from L*dl isn't going to cost me excessive amounts either. Just a little insurance, yes?0

I've got the bottom shelf of the fridge filled with bread flour Mrs L. Re crayfish - there is no way in hell I'm going to eat anything with antennae :eek::eek:0

They're very nice MAR, like up market prawns, and they don't have antennae when you eat them, you have to undress them first!!!0

I'm not sure about facing the zombie hordes. Was pulling a blanket off the top of the wardrobe when a spider fell on my head. I did a little dance and screamed like a big girl - which come to think of it...

There doesn't seem to have been much on the news about the terrible floods in parts of Europe. Is this due to climate change (for whatever reason) I wonder? Very worrying whatever and awful for those affected.
Just look at this picture of the appropriately named Fischbeck.

Garden wise I think we are a bit behind everyone else. The runner beans and potatoes are just starting to take off, the carrots should be ready soon, the chillis are nowhere near flowering. But dear me - like I do every year - I planted too much cut and come again lettuce in one go. Lettuce soup anyone?
I live in Hungary and we've been quite hard hit, though not as bad as Germany. My SHTF preparations consisted of stocking up on 5l of drinking water and some candles in case our power and water were cut. Fortunately I haven't needed them. The clean up is going to be massive though. I put myself forward for civil defence duty (lifting sandbags etc) but was turned away due to the huge numbers volunteering, which was quite heartwarming (and a relief for me as I'm a lazy so and so...).'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0 -
It seems that our media will report on just about anything rather than the bad time our European neighbours are having with the floods. Aren't we supposed to be all Europeans together now?
It's no wonder the conspiracy theorists are polishing the old tin foil. Stay safe Allegro (but yes good to know that people are volunteering).0 -
Sorry to hear you've been affected AA well done for volunteering its the thought that counts even if you weren't needed, well done!
I finally managed to find a reasonably up to date article on how things are going in Europe, hidden in amongst a story about our carp summer in the Daily Mail..
I agree with other posters here it's Europe for gods sake you'd think they'd be interested in reporting about it but no..The Sun seemed more interested in the speakers wife flogging her furniture on Ebay..says a lot about the state of our country when the real news isn't even getting a look in.
Pertiddling doon here, just rescued the washing I put out 3 days agoand its dry fortunately!
Dull, dark and dank and flippin' cold! Does nothing for your mood this sort of weather does it?
Just stocked up on a years worth of DS3's sleep meds as they sent me a 15% off coupon
Have approx 2 years worth of cleaning products now too thanks to MrT.

This is interesting viewing, although it is an hour and a half long, the last ten minutes is a bit of an eye opener to what the US is planning.
