I just got married at lake Como last week, it is the most romantic place and much cheaper than other popular parts of Italy such as Tuscany or the amalfi coast.

Although I would stay in Varenna and not bellagio, nicer atmosphere and much cheaper as there are less tourists

We are off to Lake Como after Lake Garda in a couple of weeks. We are staying in Menaggio. I can't wait.

I love Lake Como. Como itself isn't a bad little town, I found a fab pizza place behind one of the squares (not the main 2 but the one to the right of them) that did excellent oval shaped pizza (I've lived in Italy so have tried a lot of pizza).

It's also worth a day to Lugano in Switzerland as its a very pretty town. You can get the intercity train or there is a cheaper local bus option.

Last time i went to Whitby everyone was dressed as goths :D if it's only a few days have you thought about staying a little closer to home maybe back end of the year little cottage with an open fire somewhere along the coast or the brecon beacons, the National Trust have some great little quirky places that you can rent google water tower Truro, or Doyden castle port Quin doyden is fantastic a folly castle just for 2 right on the cliffs

    Have a great trip

Best time to go is when the Goth festival is on, people watching is awesome and the outfits and makeup are fascinating and despite some of them looking terrifying they are actually very friendly.

This one here looks quite romantic, a "palace" in the water, cant get more romantic!

Less romantic in a dry season !

I would second Lake Louise. We went to BC on our honeymoon and have a piccy that we took on timer there and I have this as my desktop at work, I always get asked where the picture was taken by colleagues - 5 years later!

I would go back in a hearbeat if we could!
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

Another vote for Venice, but go out of season, when there are no holidays or festivals. Then seek out the back streets and its like you have the most special city in the world all to yourself.

I absolutely love The Headland Hotel in Newquay. Go out of season, and walk the beautiful deserted coastline in the rain, or sit inside and watch a storm howling around you. Wonderful.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Not really a place for a long weekend or few days away but the most romantic place I've been is Koh Mak

    http://www.kohmakresort.com/home.html

Particularly the dinner they do on a traditional boat watching the sunset over the sea, followed by a trip up the river to watch fireflies...absolutely magical!

For somewhere a bit closer to home/less pricey, I'd go for Rome.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!
