Going To Court Tomorrow

Help I am so nervous and have been reading up on people's experiences regarding bankruptcy and would like to let you know how much help and support I have felt from this site and would really like to thank everybody you do not know how valuable you all are.

I am hoping and praying everything will go ok tomorrow - I have debts in the region of £95,000 and it is a nightmare which I want to end.

    Hi and welcome.

Hope everything goes ok for you, make sure you have enough cash for a visit to the pub on the way home as you will have earned yourself a drink...

Just think, this time tomorrow, you don`t owe any body any money......:j :j

You'll have to change your name tomorrow you know; how about "willbeedebtfree".

Have a good stiff drink this evening, plenty of coffee and paracetamol for the morning and as Jock says enough money for a drink on the way home.

You'll be fine; you just don't realsie it at the moment,

    All our best wishes,

    Richard

    Hi,
I can understand how nervous and worried you are feeling, i remember not sleeping at all the night before and feeling terribly sick on the day i went to court. my CAB officer was with me for support and he was a star supported me and kept saying " Just remeber this is the start of the rest of your Debt Free life and you will have No more sleepless nights due to debt anyway"

    He was so right!
Wishing you well, and don't forget that drink for afterwards ( i had a coffee)

Come and tell us how it all went. We know it will be fine, I doubt you will believe that until it's all over though. Just remember nothing can be as bad as the stress you have been living with, tomorrow will be a breeze next to that. Enjoy your drink and don't forget to raise a glass to your new life.

  • thank you all for your support I will carry that with me when I go and yes I will look forward to that drink and I will wish you all well.

As you can gather last night was horrendous things going over and over in my mind and dreading the ordeal in front of me but like you say and I hope it is true that it is not going to be as bad as I might be thinking but nothing can take the guilt away for getting into this situation - hindsight is a great thing!!!!

Well I will get my papers together and off I go - fortunately I have a friend who will be going with me for support and I am so grateful to her for that because it is times like this when you find out who your true friends are.

Will let you know how I go on.
  • HOW did it go? Ill be there next month, well as soon as I get raise the money.

well how did you get on? I felt amazing after a walked out of the court - as if a weight had been lifted. And the best bit was that nights sleep - I slept like a baby that night with no sleeping tablets needed like the previous weeks on end.
    😁
  • Hope everything went smoothly!

  • Hope it all went ok for you!

I was at declared bankrupt last Wednesday. Didn't sleep at all the night before, was sick in the morning, shaking like a leaf all day. 2 hours after arriving at court I was stood outside with a piece of paper in one hand, a cig in the other and a big smile on my face... First time I'd genuinely smiled in months!

Got my OR meeting in 3 weeks, pretty sure I'll feel nervous as hell before that too (especially as mine included gambling debts) but still remaining positive as I'm finally working towards rebuilding my life.

I was very open with everybody that I was going bankrupt & the reasons why, that and the fact that I'm completely broke for the next couple of months hasn't put my new girlfriend off at all. If anything I've found family and friends to be very supportive of the whole situation.

Can't stretch to real one just yet, but for the time being...
  • Hi Everybody

Thanks again for all your support - I have just come home after being to the Courts and to be honest I just feel numb - I think the strain and worry over the past few months have been horrendous and maybe that is why I can't take it in yet. I certainly don't feel elated just guilty I suppose about having to go down this route but I had no other option.

I went to see the Clerk and she checked my papers and then she must have gone to see the Judge who asked a couple of questions as she came back to clarify a few things and then she said I would need to speak to the OR - I waited in another room and the same Clerk came for me and took me in a room and went through the forms again and then she made a phone call to the OR who asked me for my telephone number and said they would be in touch within the next week and they would also send out a Pack for me (I am not sure what this entails) maybe somebody could enlighten me.

The worst part of the time in Court I found was the lack of privacy everybody in the room could hear your conversation which I found nerve racking but I was declared Bankrupt at 10.15 which I suppose means I am free of my debts and this should stop the creditors constantly getting in touch with me by phone etc.

I am just waiting now for the dreaded call from the OR - don't know what to expect but the Clerk did say to me that my bank may close my account once they find out I have been made BR and advised me to call them before the OR notifies them - am not sure what I will do if I can't have a bank account as my wages and pension gets paid into my bank along with my direct debits.

I only opened this back account about a month ago and it is just the basic bank account is this normal procedure to have it closed?

I just hope the conversation with the OR goes as smoothly as today seemed to go.
