Just wishing you well for tomorrow, hope it all goes smoothly, if it helps any, I'll be doing the same thing when I can develop the nerve to go for it. From what I've read you should get a great sense of relief, thats the bit I'm looking forward to :)
  • Hi Everybody

Thanks again for all your support - I have just come home after being to the Courts and to be honest I just feel numb - I think the strain and worry over the past few months have been horrendous and maybe that is why I can't take it in yet. I certainly don't feel elated just guilty I suppose about having to go down this route but I had no other option.

I went to see the Clerk and she checked my papers and then she must have gone to see the Judge who asked a couple of questions as she came back to clarify a few things and then she said I would need to speak to the OR - I waited in another room and the same Clerk came for me and took me in a room and went through the forms again and then she made a phone call to the OR who asked me for my telephone number and said they would be in touch within the next week and they would also send out a Pack for me (I am not sure what this entails) maybe somebody could enlighten me.

The worst part of the time in Court I found was the lack of privacy everybody in the room could hear your conversation which I found nerve racking but I was declared Bankrupt at 10.15 which I suppose means I am free of my debts and this should stop the creditors constantly getting in touch with me by phone etc.

I am just waiting now for the dreaded call from the OR - don't know what to expect but the Clerk did say to me that my bank may close my account once they find out I have been made BR and advised me to call them before the OR notifies them - am not sure what I will do if I can't have a bank account as my wages and pension gets paid into my bank along with my direct debits.

I only opened this back account about a month ago and it is just the basic bank account is this normal procedure to have it closed?

I just hope the conversation with the OR goes as smoothly as today seemed to go.

Hi and well done on getting through 2day ,the pack from the OR nothing to worry about ,theres just all the information leaflets and a few forms to sign , did it say basic account on your bankruptcy forms? as when i had the clerk look over my forms she highlighted my basic bank account and told me it would be highly unlikely for it to be frozen which it wasn't (its with the co-op).you could always tell the ORwhen they call you and just say thats where your income goes for essential living expenses ie household bills and food

  • thanks for that - the Clerk just told me to contact my bank before the OR did as they might close my account she did not know whether they would or not so not sure what will happen, I might ring the Bank up tomorrow and explain but I also think if I do ring them they will not be happy and just close it whereas if the OR notifies them maybe then I can keep it open - I am at a loss at to what to do for the best.

Well done on getting through this, its a heck of a weight off isnt it :) I fealt much the same for a while afterwards, just disbelief that after all the stress and worry, the process genuinely is there to help you rather than punish you.

I'm at the other end of the process, just got notified that I can apply for early discharge.

Dont fret over the meeting, if you cant find every last scrap of paper they dont shoot you or anything, I personally had nothing to show any of my creditors other than a copy of my credit report.

One minor point, the OR dont freeze bank accounts, the bank does that. I cleared out my Natwest account as when I asked them they said they would automatically close my account when the bankruptcy goes on my credit file. Got one with Nationwide after my bankruptcy went through no problem. Its a bit naff but it works for now.

    All the best

  • ok will do that tomorrow and see what happens.

What sort of things does the OR go into when they ring are they ok or are they very intimidating?
