How should I go about asking permission for a second job? read before posting.

Brett,
Above all you should be open and honest about what you are doing and why.
Does your firm have a policy on this? In the staff handbook etc. This may provide some guidance.
If not you have to put yourself in your employers position. Alot depends on your current job and what sort of second job you want to do.
Will the job be with a competitor? Presumably unacceptable.
Will it use skills or qualifications you have acquired from your presemt employer? May be an issue.
Will it use knowledge or interlectual property gained from your present job? May be an issue.
Will it reflect badly on your employer that you are doing the second job? May be a concern
Will doing the secord job make you too tired to do the main job? Big issue.
Will it make you late for your current job?
Will it affect how flexible you can be in your current job?
Are you likely to meet the same people in the two jobs?
Without knowing what job you have and what 2nd job you want its impossible to say but these are the sort of questions they might expect you to address in your request.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -

You asked the question first time round in March - the 15th. So in 4 months you haven't been able to say to your boss 'Hi, I just wondered what the protocol for second jobs round here is'?If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.0 -

The majority of lenders will accept a second income, a few won't.0 -

We're about to introduce that clause at work. If someone's offered a job in a completely different line of work, there probably won't be a problem. If it's a bar job, we'd reinforce that coming in to work 'under the influence' would lead to disciplinary action. If the other job involved driving, and our job involved driving (most don't but a few do have to drive) we'd stress that our job would have to take priority in terms of permitted hours etc.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
