Well, just had a phone call from Thomson, they are adamant that E-Cigs are only allowed in hold luggage, which is contrary to the information given on their FAQ page as linked by Antrobus where it only states they can not be used on the aircraft. I stated that they were allowed through security and I asked if Thomson staff would be searching bags which have already been searched by security staff and just got told to take enough to last whilst waiting then put the rest in the bin, I really don't think she had a clue.

I don't think the person at Thomson had a clue either. How can they make you put something in the the hold that even airport security allows to be carried through?

And how would they even know you had it in your pocket? They don't as when you check in 'have you got an electronic cigarette about your person' and your OH isn't going to go waving it at them.

OP - if its a long haul flight, has he considered wearing a patch for the journey, it will help during the flight, I am not sure whether they allow smoking of e-cigs in the terminal or not, but definitely not the plane, whereas a patch would be both discreet and permissible during the journey.

Um, other half is female, last time I looked I'm definitely male :p No it's not longhaul, as mentioned in my opening post it's Luton to Reus (Spain) i was just looking for an alternative to the constant nagging and usual ritual of her smoking 2 fags before entering the airport and then going outside for another 2 after checking in, before we go through security, then at the other end "I'm not doing anything til I've had a couple of fags" oh and then another couple before getting on the transfer coach. Unfortunately, not being a smoker I don't have much sympathy.

I think as per rules it is forbidden in the terminal building due to above mentioned reasons but I doubt it to be a hold luggage item and it can be hand carried while passing security check.

Just why do you think that?

Are you actually aware of what an e-cig is?

I share your viewpoint, and I am a smoker! I assume she manages to sleep through the night without having to have a cigarette, so I can't see why she can't manage a short journey. I do think some smokers play on the no smoking thing at times!

I personally think that the No Smoking rules have gone to far and that airports should either have designated smoking areas after security or at least allow E-Cigs to be used, even if only in certain areas, afterall, before security you can go outside, once through security you've had it, ok not a problem if the flight is on time but what if you end up with a long delay?

At night most people are relaxed, what doesn't help in places like airports is some people are quite stressed/nervous about the whole procedure of getting though the airport and onto the plane.
It would help everyone if the airport simply allowed smokers somewhere to go and get their fix.

Exactly, they could easily do this, they used to do it and they only reason they don't now is down to political correctness.

I was on a Monarch flight recently, and it was announced that the no smoking includes e-cigarettes.Malaga airport's smoking zone has disappeared (poss.2 yrs ago) but one or two people were 'vaping' without making a big show of it,and nobody seemed that bothered.
