Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 10th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

    Morning Tappers,

Quiet here this morning, not raining here yet, but I am sure it will later on, got the wm on, so will be doing the hokey cokey with that :D

Beetroot, my faourite dish with that is to boil it till its about 1/2 cooked, then roast it in the oven for the remainder of the time, with some good olive oil and S + P, once its cooked peel it while warm, (use rubber gloves) then slice into nice size slices, pour over some melted butter and parmasan and eat with chunks of bread, its delish.

The usual today for me, drop dd off at work, come home house work etc, dinner I think will be gamon, with new pots and veg.

Would like to spend time in the garden, but that depends on the rain.

Need to weigh myself today to see what damage occoured on holiday :D

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

It was a friend’s funeral last Friday. You know how the family say ‘it’s not a funeral, it’s a celebration of his life’ then it ends up being a funeral? Not this time - there were bright colours, lots of laughter, some people sang acapella (one really shouldn’t have!). It was amazing.

We drove to Fairford yesterday to watch the planes fly out. We found a field where we could park for free, it was right next to the runway and we had a perfect view. My fave this year was the typhoon – take off then vertical climb, the rumble goes right through you :D Not at all impressed with having to use a portaloo though.

My girls have had to be treated for mites and lice (their house smells like a chemical factory atm) and poor Daisy has been sleeping in the kitchen for a couple of days, she has canker and I can’t treat that myself. So we’re off to the vet this morning.

There’s not much happening here. Mr tru has the week off so nothing will get done, he always wants to just go here and just visit there. I’m looking forward to next Monday already :D

    Morning All

Another gloomy looking day today, washing will go on airers again unless it cheers up. Did a huge pile of ironing yesterday so that's out of the way for a while. Just hoovered round, everything else looking ok.

Sold a double bed on Sunday so I can get into the downstairs bedroom to finish painting the skirting boards, it's looking a lot better so if anyone comes to look when the house goes up for sale it is brighter. Will move the massive bed from upstairs when the room is finished.

Went to Glasgow yesterday and got a couple of christmas pressies to put away for DS2, also spent my £100 voucher from Cath Kidston, got 2 bags and a purse (it was the sale so did better than I thought!). Also visited Mr Ts clothing sale and got 4 lots of pjs and a couple of tops, a pair of shorts for DD and she got 2 tops too - all for £42. I had to have a bit of a nap before I went to work at 6, I was exhausted!!

Hope Meanmarie has a good holiday in oz, sorry I missed you yesterday.

Really need to get a shower and motivate myself, so much to do! Take care. XX

    Morning everyone,

Taplady I cook and slice the beetroot and freeze it ready for use.

Butterflybrain sorry to hear that you have been ill.

Hester Hope that hubby gets more reasonable shifts soon.

Tru glad the funeral went well.

    Meanmarie have a lovely holiday.

I am not feeling very happy at the moment. I have had a falling out with my best friend as she let me down and left my DS out of a weekend away with all his friends. He is absolutely fine about it and has gone away today with another couple of friends for a few days. I have told my friend that I have forgiven her so as far as she is concerned it is over but I still feel really upset and let down over it. I know that I need to move on but I feel really down.

On top of all that DD1 has another ear infection and is really suffering.

This evening I am going to a spa (on a groupon) with 3 friends from work so hopefully that will help.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning everyone :)

Dry here at the moment but am sure that won't last ;)
Plans are to bake some cupcakes for DDs birthday to take to school. So have to head up to Sainsbugs for a couple of things. Take note Aldi you need to increase some of your ranges ;)
Then it's loads of washing, stripped kids beds so need to remake, vac up stairs and dust and just rid of the total crap that is cluttering up our house!!!!! I am sick of stuff just being everywhere!!!!!!!!

    And breathe :o

Tea is chicken casserole which I shall do in SC, the first time I've used it for aaaaaaages :o

Moorhen i mean no offence when I say this but have you truly forgiven your friend? Sounds to me that you're still hurt about it (which is entirely understandable) and that you're not quite at forgiveness stage.

Tru glad funeral turned out to be what it was supposed to be :D

Hugs and spoons all round xx

We get more upset than our kids do when we think they are slighted or upset. I can see it would make you see your friend in a different way but hope things improve.

    Hester

I don't really know the regs but surely there must be rules for a rest time between split shifts for your DH. Sounds as if they know they are taking the mick and that is why they send the rep around.

    Tru

Sorry about the funeral but glad it was upbeat and that you had something to balance out the occasion with the flight display.

    Butterflybrain

Hope your recuperation goes well and quickly for you.

Two dds have gone off to work and youngest has not surfaced yet.

Not sure if she wants to go shopping with me for bits and bobs for her holiday but will make the offer. Going to ask dh what he fancies for breakfast and make a pot of tea.

Yesterday was supposed to be a big shop but by the time had helped dd find a new jacket(nine shops) and explored swish bathroom showroom just had time to cobble spiced chicken with oven chips, onion rings and home made veggie/ potato cake together.

Plan to use quorn pieces, onions and mushrooms with froxen puff pastry to make small pies with home made mash tonight. If I get sidetracked again then might have to be quorn pieces or mince for quick curry or spag bol instead.

DH has seen a walk in wetroom design he loves but will let him discuss price and practicality with the builder and plumber. I plan to back off a bit and let him have the headache. Our neighbour is having patio laid so can hear frantic activity from our window.

Going downstairs with laptop and going to spring er shuffle into action.;)

    Hugs to all

Good morning everyone well its dry at the moment here in north Kent but due for some more of the wet stuff before nightfall.Such a shame as the little ones outdoor picnic at school will be cancelled for tomorrow, and Sports Day on Friday looks a bit doubtful at the moment .The poor farmers must be tearing their hair out as waterlogged fields won't put money in their pockets for the coming winter.
No doubt fresh veg will soar in price along with fruit Still I suppose we could all do with eating fewer spuds for our waistlines, there is always another way to look at things :)
My friend came yesterday and bless her she managed to get my freezer defrosted and its back up and running beautifully again.I watched and made the coffee, she is such a good pal to me as she see's what I can't manage to do with only one arm that works properly and says 'don't worry I'll do that for you'
The boys are all looking forward to breaking up next week from school and Henry will be going to senior school in September so I'll only have one little one left in the Juniors.
NSDs for me so far this week as I had such a lot of stuff given to me on Saturday from my DD that she snaffled from Mr Ts, all YS stuff but freezeable.I am going to do a complete stocktake today of my cupboards and freezer and work out a menu plan from it which hopefully will take me to mid-August when we go away on holiday.Whats left over from my food budget goes into the holiday fund for treats and ice creams next month for the children.
Right time I got a wriggle on
Hope you are all safe and dry and have a good day
    take care JackieO xxx

Bitsy you are right, I haven't forgiven her, I think that will take a while.
I have told her that I have forgiven her as there is no point in both of us feeling bad.

Elona You are also right. DS would like to have gone but he understands that there wasn't enough space and that he would have been next on the list. I am really upset.

The main problem that I have is if the boys that went away together start doing things together and leave DS out again.
He is not the sort of child that puts himself forward, he just waits to be asked and no amount of encouragement (nagging) from me will help.
  • Morning everybody! I am being very un-Oldstyle this morning and gave taken my little girl out for breakfast before her occupational therapy appointment! In my defence, hers is free, I won't need lunch, and it's nice to have some girl time together without her baby brother taking up my attention.

I drop her at school just in time to pick the bubs up from playgroup so no peace today... I'm going to try to get some more organising and cleaning done if he naps!
