    Re the twin tuner upgrade as posted earlier.. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=492057

    Has anyone tried it? Is it worth doing?

    I'm not sure what cable to buy for the firmware upgrade, as the digitalspy thread is a bit confusing. Is it this one on the right (CGA/Serial Mouse M-F)?

    Hi Lou Lou, If its a 9 pin one then the £1.08 serial mouse extension cable should be the one.

    Yes, those reports on Dabs would put me off ordering from there - they certainly wouldn't put me off buying "refurbished" generally, though.

    Help! I've now got the Dual DPVR801. Everything is fine, except, when I try to do a recording it says, "Unable To Start Recording, The Signal Is Too Weak".

    Someone on Digital Spy is saying it can be the RF lead that is the problem. I'm using all the connections my Humax box was, to test it. Instead of the teeny loop through RF lead that came in the box.

    The Over The Air update worked earlier, too.

    My Humax PVR8000T has worked fine for years! Do I need some sort of booster for my aerial or something?
  • I've ordered an excellent Daewoo 9503T from ebuyer for just £140. A bargain for a highly rated 160GB, dual tuner PVR!

    Hi, been wanting a twin-tuner freeview HD recorder and was saving my pennies for the Humax one...but spotted this one on Dabs for £59.99 so took the plunge. Its a refurbished item but you can get new ones for 89.99 and there are some good customer reviews on this item so thought I would give it a go. I have had some dabsvalue products before and they are _usually_ rebadged units from a pretty good manufacturer. I will let you know what it is like when I receive it as it should be here within 2-3 days. Anyone bought one of these before??

    PS. Quiklink for the item is 4DDPI7
    No reliance should be placed on the above, as i don't believe anything i say either...
  • This is the best bit of kit we've ever had, if you haven't got one, snap it up!

    In my experience the best place to buy the refurbished Digihome is from newcloudroom on eBay (believe it or not!).

    I bought 2 on Buy It Now (though they do auction them too, starting at lower prices which often end up higher than the BINs):

    80gb = £45 + £10 P&P
    160gb = £65 + £10 P&P

    Very fast delivery, and the hard drives are clean and ready to go. Dabs customers have variously reported programmes still on hard drive, coffee-stained manual, missing remote, etc. I really don't think that their boxes have been refurbed.

    TWIN RECORD UPGRADE

    This PVR only has 32mb of RAM (which I believe cannot be added to), so you need to delete all unwanted channels or the EPG will not fully populate. That's what I've gleaned from following others' experience on Digital Spy forums. I've got the gear to do mine but not ventured there yet.

    I actually came here via Google to find the "adding a USB port" info/pics that I've lost the whereabouts of, like someone else on the previous page.

    I bought the unit from DABS, and it arrived today. There are two problems - which I think are probably related.

    Firstly, not all of the channels show, even though they have been found during installation scan. I have the recorder plugged into the main aeriel socket, and from there a lead goes into my integrated freeview telly - which gets all of the channels, and as before, they are high quality pictures. So either the DABS unit has a weaker receptor than the telly's, or there's something else going on. Second problem is that the recording playback shows quite a lot of jumping. I think this is related to the quality of the digital reception into the unit.

    I'll give them a call tomorrow - it's a good price and nice functionality, but if I can't record without jumping across all of the usual channels, then it's not much use to me.

    Does anyone ask him/herself the following simple question:

    WHY ARE THESE UNITS REFURBISHED???:confused:
    Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
