Nothing she can do, you cant expect a business to keep hold of items for months on end, its a club and not a personal storage firm. She just needs to be more responsible for her belongings.

She is normally extremely responsible. Were did i say she expected them to provide a "personal storage firm"? As I said in my earlier post, the lapse in concentration was due to her being taken very ill!

I asked if anyone knew what were the rules regarding this sort of thing or if there were any.

So how do you explain that when I went to the club to look for it, there were loads of tatty coats which had been languishing there for months but the nice leather jacket has "been given to charity"!!!!

How do you know how long the other coats had been there? Do you regularly scrutinise their lost property dept?

How about asking what charity it went to and see if you can track it down?

Good idea. Will give it a shot. It was a silly thing for her to do but understandable given the circs. Will probably just have to forget about it and move on. She is really angry with herself but am thinking as she has been through such a rough time, I may replace it for her as a nice surprise.

They had tickets on with the date they were left! But thanks for the sarcasm!

I never said provide a personal storage firm, I said they're a club not a personal storage firm meaning you can expect a club to keep hold of a coat for 4 weeks. Yes she had a lapse of concentration with being ill and i hope she gets better but thats not much of an exscuse.

There are no rules covering it.

And you'll probably find one of the staff has taken a liking to it. ;)

(Not uncommon - DD #1 is a part-time barmaid whilst at Uni and she's seen this happen with left items. Very unlikely it went to charity).

I was rather sceptical about it going to charity.

There wouldn't BE any coats in the cloakroom. Girls barely even wear clothes there, nevermind coats. ;)

PS - I am from Newcastle, though don't live there now. :)
