Jacket left in cloakroom given to charity

Daughter left her leather jacket in club cloakroom four weeks ago (I am aware it is her own fault and she should be more careful)but what are the rules for getting rid of items after this length of time.
It seems a very short time span to me and I am not sure if they are allowed to do this. Anyone know please.

There is no rule per se, the receipt or a sign at the cloakroom may have stated how long they would keep the item for? I would consider four weeks a more than generous amount of time to keep the item, unless she had notified them in the meantime of her intention to collect it?0

Agreed. If it was that important she would have tried to collect it long before now.
(I'm aware there might be extenuating circumstances, but none have been provided as yet).0 -

No she didn't as she was rushed to hospital with a serious illness the next day and has only given it a thought this week now she is on the mend. Whilst I appreciate they did not know this it still seems rather hasty to be giving away people's belongings, even though it was her responsibility to remember it. She was not feeling well when she left the club which is why she forgot it.
No indication on ticket or sign at cloakroom.0 -

How long should they keep the items for? If every weekend one hundred (for instance) people leave items behind, that is four hundred over a month - where are they expected to keep them?
For me (and it is only my opinion), I would say that anything left over a clear week should be disposed of. That gives people an additional week and the next weekend to collect the item.0 -
Nothing she can do, you cant expect a business to keep hold of items for months on end, its a club and not a personal storage firm. She just needs to be more responsible for her belongings.
A week is perfectly fine to collect items from a club.0 -

So how do you explain that when I went to the club to look for it, there were loads of tatty coats which had been languishing there for months but the nice leather jacket has "been given to charity"!!!!0 -
How about asking what charity it went to and see if you can track it down?0

They do have a duty of care, however 4 weeks probably dischrges most if not all of that - they thought it was abandoned, so gave it to a charity shop to benefit from it. Maybe just buy it back from the charity shop?0
-
And you'll probably find one of the staff has taken a liking to it.

(Not uncommon - DD #1 is a part-time barmaid whilst at Uni and she's seen this happen with left items. Very unlikely it went to charity).0 -

As I don't work there I can't answer that, can I? Have you asked them the question?0
