I know someone who runs a boarding kennels and also breeds and shows Great Danes, she says she gives her Danes sardines in oil twice a week to keep their coats nice and I usually do the same for my dog, he gets sardines in sunflower oil at least once, often twice a week in fact I keep them in all the time for something quick to give him if I haven't got any of the HM meat and veg to mix with his Arden Grange, He loves them.

I posted on here a while ago about trying him with salmon oil and it had made him very sick. I was going to try him with a biit again to see if it was actually the salmon oil or if he had had something else that had upset him but haven't got round to it.

Ha ha, I spend more time cooking for him I think than I do for myself!!

I've got a blender/chopper thing and I chop the veg up really fine to bulk up the meat, he has either lean mince or chicken with it, it smells lovely as I'm cooking it.

My 2 dogs have either sardines or pilchards in oil, or pate, or tuna, on toast for breakfast every day.
I wouldn't get away with not doing them their toast now, they'd be too sulky.

I don't buy any fancy brands, as long as the fish is in oil and not water.

I've never thought of doing that - I chop it all into chunks by hand! (Ben liked chunks!)

Might try blending the next time I need to do some - don't think Maisie would be bothered!

Won't need to do any for ages - had a slight errrrr freezer defrosting *incident* last month and had to do a mammoth cook of all the defrosted meat - she's got enough to keep her going until the end of October / mid November:rotfl:

Just picture me having to use every pan / bowl I have to cope with the huge amount of meat (had just bought a load of raw for her which I had to cook in the end and several bits of human grade mince, chicken etc) & then chop & cook mountains of veg to go with it:eek: and then portion it up ..... was not a happy Rising that day!:o

Wow, sounds like a total nightmare Rising!!

Mine is not that keen on chunks of veg, especially not carrots, which I don't like either!! He picks then out given the chance so that was why I bought a blender/chopper thingy. It also sooooo much easier, I just cut into biggish chunks and pop it in and give it a few whizzes then tip it straight into the pan with the meat, doesn't take long at all really. Much easier than when I chopped it finely for him.
