Tinned fish?

Maisie loves the Fish4Dogs Salmon Mouse things & they're obviously very good for her coat (which I have to say is absolutely fantastic & shiny!:D)
Unfortunately, they're not cheap:eek:. I know some people feed tinned fish but have absolutely no idea what types:o (eg I wouldn't have thought tuna would be good on a regular basis as I know it's not good for the cats to have it too often).
She does get the odd bit of fish if I have some but TBH it's not that often & I'd like to give her something say once a week or so.
So - if you give tinned fish - what sort, what liquid does it come in & do you drain it etc?
As an alternative, I've seen this some salmon oils online (did post about this a while ago but can't find the thread:o) and wondered about this - but she does get meat with her meal (HM) so not sure if it would "go" with that? TIA

Tinned tuna doesn't contain essential fatty acids, you would want pink salmon or sardines or pilchards (in tomato or water so you can feed the rich liquid too). These generally come with the bones in which you can mash into the meat for the minerals. Alternatively there is no reason not to use fish oil capsules intended for humans, the triple strength stuff is quite reasonable on eBay. Might work out cheaper than branded salmon oil? Just compare the EPA and DHA content so you know you are looking at like for like.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Thanks Firefox I'll have a look at those when I'm next at the sm (I don't eat tinned fish myself so really have no idea about them!).
I've just found some F4D mousse pouches on a fantastic deal ...... but they're typically sold out!
Will keep an eye open and see if they get more back in stock!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Mine often get tinned pilchards, they're one of the cheapest in the supermarket. I did feed salmon oil for quite a while and always put it on whatever meat they were having as their meal with no problem. If they'll happily eat 3-day-old rotting seagull, I'm sure a bit of salmon on their meat won't harm!0

ohhhhh that rivals the dissected duck head that I was brought as a gift a few days ago :rotfl: (I'm generally not to bad with dead things .... but at 6am )
Thanks .... def got some ideas to look for now (I did have a peak at the tinned fish bit the other day but honestly didn't know where to start!:o)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Sardines/Pilchards, from a supermarket are pennies! Why feed oil when you can feed the whole thing?Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!0

You won't get the same oils from tuna, but cats do seem to love it as a treat. I mix it up with some prawns once a week for my gang. Best to buy the tuna in spring water IMO.2012 Wins: 1 x Case of Lanson Champagne :beer:0

Daisy loves tuna in brine,I don't drain off all of the brine, rather leave enough to make it wet in the bowl.0

Mine love Applaws Tuna and Seaweed - cat food (although you wouldn't know it, it's THAT amazing).
KiKi' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".0 -
I think the fish in oil is actually better for pets. Brine is salted water so I wouldnt give it to my pets.
I also wouldnt give it to them every day. once a week or fortnight as a treat. my staffie loved to have the bones and skin of tinned salmon, but VERY occasionally she had a tin of sardines in oil to herself. my springer didnt like fish which was amazing as normally she was a complete glutton!
btw - everyone in the house knew when anni the staffie had her fish treat - Phhhewwwww!0 -
Mine gets tinned sardines or mackerel in sunflower oil or tomato sauce, mixed in with some dry food about 3 times a week, he loves it!:)
I may give him a spoonful of my tuna ocassionally if i am making some for myself.
He has also had the ocassional treat of fresh sardines or sprats that i find in the reduced aisle in tesco just grilled whole and then mashed into dried food! oh how my other half laughed when he seen me cooking fish for my dog :rotfl:0
