No absolutely nothing wrong with having holidays, it's allowed as part of the BR process so all is above board etc. For myself it is something I would always prioritise. I had a big holiday in 2011 and in thinking about this today, it is the fact that I did that has led to the huge shame of going BR as I felt I shouldn't have had it and didn't deserve it and anything spent should have paid off some of my debt instead. And yet the holiday was paid with a gift and student loan and was before ever claiming benefits, and the spending money was CSA payments none of the things that paid for the holiday would have paid off debt anyway so now I am wondering why I felt so guilty. The fact that the BR process allows for holidays shows that holidays are important.

I've searched high and low online for cheap last minute holidays in the sun but can't find anything for £100! So wish I could however, nothing like a holiday. Realistically I need to get a job first though and need to get my health on track to do that, so one step at a time.

Shelly, all the best for your holiday, 25 years is well worth celebrating.

The Co op have a long memory. I opened a basic account with them over 6 years ago due to a situation similar to yours. After running the account flawlessly for 6 years I applied for their premier privilege account. My credit files are clean, I have a well paid job and have held credit cards perfectly and the coop account for years.

During the application the coop rep said that there was a marker on file and my application was unsuccessful, no credit check was made.
After this, the same day, I opened a First Direct account, opened their gold credit card plus FD savings account.

Now they know your history they won't upgrade you. Don't be upset by this, just move banks.

It's a real shame though isn't it as Co-op are so good in many ways, offering accounts to BR people where most banks don't. You would think then they ought to be BR friendly in recovery and on. Else we'll all just leave them as soon as!

You should of asked for it to be referred. You probably would have found that you would have got the account.

Perhaps I should have done as the coop do have excellent call centres and have always been good. I just got into a huff, after I had spent years being sensible they still said no. I'm happy with first direct so far, they seem like a well run bank.

I made an appt in branch and went through all my accounts etc. computer declined, which i knew it would. He reffered it to upstairs or head office. They had a week to look at it. They rang last friday, said my account was perfect, savings and the fact my wages went in. He said the problem came from my credit files, even though at least 4 companys have settled/ satisfied etc.
He asked me to clean all my files up, in which i am doing. Then asked me to call back in september. I have to travel an hour to get to the bank in the first place. Its not like popping into a shop

That's a nuisance shelly, not like they can't see the BR has gone and the things are settled anyway. Hope you manage to clear the CRA's ok. Just shows sometimes the computer can't be over-rided. I would imagine all banks would come up with the same answer though until the clean up.

The Co-OP will not upgrade your account until br comes off your credit files, my wife has over £3000 a month go into her account and has run her account in credit for nearly four years and with a large sum in her ISA. She has been told come back when it has gone,

Sorry but that is their policy.

shelly 1965: Good luck to you, and great to see you getting a bit behind you again, love that, the only point i can make is as already mentioned, it does seem as if its luck of the draw, sometimes it seems to me like these credit reference agencies hold grudges against some people and others who are absolute rogues, can do no wrong, (not implying your hubby of course).

I may be faced with the big B myself in the near future and getting good advice is somewhat difficult, so , can I ask how you did yours and how long it lasted before your discharge, stuff like that.
