    Morning Folks,

Well I have had a slight relapse with my back over the weekend. It was my own fault; it was such a lovely day on Saturday, I just had to get out and build my raspberry trellis. As of a result of this stupid venture, Sunday morning I was in agony. Fortunately the pain has subsided today.

Well this weather is fab, and overall the garden is doing well. However, the broccoli and the cauliflower are not doing well. The broccoli has bolted; I think because I planted it too late and did not water it enough. The cauliflower has just got huge leaves and no head. However, the rest is doing well. We are still getting more strawberries through, lots of lettuce for salads, and tomatoes are starting to form nicely.

    So fingers crossed for them.

I was really hoping to get lots done over the last couple of weeks, but with the back pain I have not.

Anyway fingers crossed I will be right next week.

    Hi folks,

Well the back is almost healed; so hopefully this weekend I can get back in the garden; just in time for the rain.

We had a lovely weekend just gone. I treated my gf and we stayed in Helmsley in a very nice hotel and went to castle howard, which was amazing. It was a lovely break for a couple of days and a recharging of the batteries.

The fruit and veg is still growing strong. I had my first potatoes last week; they were so tasty. I was quite surprised as I was not sure if they would taste different to 'shop bought' ones. We have had lots of peas and mange tout, and loads of lettuce. Lots of tomatoes are growing now, but no red ones yet.

I am totally addicted to kitchen gardening now.

    Hi Folks,

Well it looks like the lovely weather is coming to an end; although Saturday was lovely. I managed to get in the garden in the morning. I have picked a few runner beans and blanched them and picked lots of peas. I have also earthed a decent bag of potatoes.

The leeks and tomatoes are growing nicely, but are not yet ready. The 'cut and come again' lettuce is still growing strong, I can't believe how much I have cut.

On a negative not, I had to dig up the two cauliflower and broccoli plants as I got nothing from them; just huge leaves.

I have managed to pick a couple of raspberries though, which were lovely.

All in all not a bad first few months. The rest of the garden is coming along slowly; but I am hoping that by the end of the year I will have a new lawn, a decking area and a new fence.

Yesterday it was raining hard in the morning so we went to see despicable me 2; it was awesome.

During the weekend I discovered an awesome book called 'zero waste home' by Bea Johnson. It really is a great read and very inspiring.

In relation to this book I found a couple of articles that really highlight the need to take action.

Hi Beanielou, glad you are ok. I do like the courgette risotto. I have not made it for a while.

Yes the garden has done well for the first year. I am hoping I can grow more next year; I guess I will just have to wait and see.

    Hi folks,

Been reading a bit more on the North Pacific Garbage patch. It is amazing how this has been allowed to happen. The patch is now twice the size of Texas.

I do recycle stuff; but I really do need to try and look at things I buy. The trouble is; when you look closely, everything comes in plastic. Terrible.

  • Hi folks,

I forgot to post about my Oxfam Povety Challenge I carried out during the back end of June.

I finally managed to collect all the money and I raised £700, which i was really pleased about.

Not much to report on my money saving and debt busting, just trying to keep on chipping away.
The garden never ceases to amaze me. I have lots of tomatoes. Mainly green ones, but I have had 10 odd red cherry tomatoes so far and they were very tasty.

Overall the first year in the garden has been a success. I have not managed to keep my blog uptodate as often as I would have liked. However, hopefully next year I will do better.

    Hi Folks,

I have not posted for months now. Things have just been plodding along really. So I thought I would try and restart the thread to give myself a kick up the bum. My garden, as some of you will know, was very good last year. However, this year I never really got started and left it too late. I did get some lovely strawberries and rhubarb. I am hoping in the next couple of months to turf part of the garden and put a new fence up. They I can finally get a greenhouse sorted around Sept time, ready for next year.

I have had a few outgoings this year, so the debt busting is not going well. I have to scrap my car, long story, but it was going to cost more than the value of it. I bought I new three year old car, with good mpg which I am pleased with. However, I had to put a 2k deposit down. I also had to fork out 4k on a new central heating system, as my old back boiler died and was unservicable. The good news was I did get a good bonuse at the end of last year so used that, although I did have to put a bit on my credit card.

I will update my signature shortly with my current debt and I need to get back into the swing of setting some challenges for myself.

I hope everybody is doing well.

    Bye for now.
