Money Fritters 'Enough Now' DFW Diary - Chapter 2

Well it has been a very productive weekend. The weather has not been great, but it has not been bad. I did quite a lot of work on the raised beds this weekend. I dug the bed over as there were quite a lot of perennial weed roots and the ground was uneven. That was back breaking work and the most unenjoyable part of gardening, but it had to be done. Once that was done, I covered the bed with cardboard and then covered that with a thin layer of compost. This bit was enjoyable, and I love the feel of compost on the fingers as you spread it over the beds. Once that was done the grow work was in place and it was time to do some serious woodwork. I manage to build the first of three raised beds and put it in place and I also construct the first path between the beds. I will put some pictures up on my garden blog in the next day or two and write a new post. Overall I am pleased with the result and I am pleased with the progress I am making.9th and 1th February 2013

Morning folks,
I lost 3lbs last week, so pleased with that. I need to lose a lot more before the 10k run and the great north run though.

Hi Folks,
I have not managed any NSD's this week. I am not sure weather I will manage one tomorrow either, what with it being Valentines Day.
I did manage to go to the gym on Monday night and did 6.5km on the treadmill, burning 500 calories. I also went to the gym on Tuesday and burnt another 300 calories on the treadmill. However, I did undo some of the good work by having three pancakes!!!!! :rotfl:
Tonight I made some more pancakes as my gf was working on Tuesday night so did not have any, so we had two each for tea tonight.
My onion sets and garlic's arrived today, I am still waiting for a few other bits and bobs, but nothing major. My potatoes are chitting nicely on the windowsill.
I have update my blog and include a few pictures from the start to now. I am really pleased with how it is taking shape.

Well today I actually managed a NSD, as I got my gf’s card and present on Tuesday. Also I cooked a nice Valentine meal, rather than spend money and go out!!!
I spent a bit of time looking at some self-sufficient books today; I do love the John Seymour book and the !!!!!! Strawbridge book is very good. I would love to have my own land, but in today’s society I don’t think it is possible to be 100% self-sufficient. However, as I am forever the optimist, I can try the best I can and have a go at certain things!!!
I was looking at my carbon footprint yesterday, there is a good website called carbonfootprint.com. On the site there is a calculator; at the moment my carbon footprint is 9.2 tonnes of CO2 which is just below the UK average.
I need to look at the following:-
Water consumption and saving
Heating and insulation
Electricity
Waste and Recycling
Other things I would like to have a go at to cut costs and pollution and waste are:-
Make my own cleaning products
Make my own soap and grooming products
As I said above, there are lots of other things to do, but can I realistically do them, only time will tell

Hi Folks,
Found a sad story today about the old Victorian Kitchen Garden from the BBC show. It was a great series and such a shame that the garden has been abandoned.DFW#972 LBM2 (09/07/12) £25938.84; Current £23783.35;Credit Credit Card1 £128.47/£6424.24 (2%);Credit Card2 £443.86/£15663.25 (2.8%); Overdraft £0/£2500 (0%)0 -
That is a sad story - something you don't think about - wonder how many other things are just left after the cameras stopped rolling.Debt free and Keeping on Track0
