Right I have a long post today, as I have not completed a proper update since Valentine’s day; so here goes!!!

Friday 15th Feb :- Today was a quiet day in work, I went to the gym after work and completed another 6K on the treadmill. I am starting to enjoy the training now and once you get into a rhythm it becomes addictive.

Saturday 16th Feb:- Today was a cold sunny day, but nice nonetheless. I managed a good productive session in the garden building the second raised bed. Things are starting to take shape now and I can’t wait to start growing; however, there is still a lot to be done. This evening I made a lovely mushroom risotto for tea, and I saved a portion for work on Monday.

Sunday 17th Feb:- I got up early today and went for a 5k run, which I was pleased with. Then after a shower and breakfast it was back in the garden; yes you guessed it. I completed the third and final raised bed for the back border. I also manage to build one compost bin and build the frame for the leaf mould bin. I still have two more compost bins to complete; I was hoping to get them done, but time goes so fast. However, the border is almost done, and hopefully some good weather next weekend will see it finished. I will write a new blog update in the next couple of days with pictures.

Monday 18th Feb:- Back to work today, and with being in the garden all weekend it felt as though I had not had a weekend. However, must not complain, it will be good once it is finished. Work was quite busy today as the new project started on the plant, so there was a few finals things to complete. I went to the gym again and completed another 5k on the treadmill so pleased with that. I got weighed today and I have lost another 2lbs from the last week. I made a lovely tea tonight; it was a Pasta with broccoli and cream. Firstly you boil the broccoli (250g) for 10 minutes (I used frozen) and then drain. You then chop an onion and 2 garlic cloves and place into a pan with a little butter and cook slowly. After a few minutes you add some chopped bacon (2-3 rashers) and cook for 5 minutes. Then add the crème fraiche (300ml) and the cheddar cheese (100g) and stir immediately and bring to the boil. Then chop the broccoli and add to the mix. Season with salt and pepper; meanwhile cook some pasta(200g) and then drain and mix with the sauce and serve. It serves two, but I think the portions were quite big so it could serve three. Next time I might cut down the amount of crème fraiche and cheese as it is quite rich and is not low on the calories. However, it was very nice. I also managed a NSD today, the first for a while.

Tuesday 19th Feb:- My project in work is underway, so today I took a back seat as there was not much I could really do. I was going to go the gym after work, but it was very busy, so when I got home I managed a 5k run, which I was pleased with. Tonight I made a cauliflower and cheese soup; I was not really sure about it, it might be the fact that I added too much water and used low fat cheese. I might have to try making it again before I decide if I like it!!! I also managed a NSD today, 2 in a row!!!

Thanks beanielou, although this was another Nigel Slater recipe so I can't take the credit.

I have lots of cookery books but I have to say the Nigel Slater books I bought before Christmas have got to be the best cookery books I have ever bought. They just show you how to cook tasty, sometimes healthy meals through the season, and they don't contain millions of ingredients that are expensive.

Mf, it's so sweet you have been asking after me. I'm very touched, from the bottom of my heart. xx

Good to see you doing the great north run, but what happened to the coast to coast? :naughty: :rotfl:

I have a fab recipe for Christmas Punch, you might like. Okay it's not xmas, but drinkable at any time of the year, especially in this cold weather. Very cold weather.

Christmas Punch - a spicy winter warmer ( makes 2.25 litres)

Take 1 litre apple & 1 litre orange juice and mix with 250ml of water. Stir in 2 tsp (10ml mixed spice & 1 tsp (5ml) ground ginger. Bring to the boil, simmer for 5 mins & serve warm, ( the warmer, the better, it's gorrrgggeous.)

Of course you can adapt the recipe, add alcohol if you want an alcoholic punch. Tastes wonderful on its own, though.

Looks like the garden is coming on. :D

  • Yeah nice to see you back Ani26, I have caught up with your thread. We were all really worried about you.

As for the coast to coast, I just didn't getting the training in that I wanted to do. I am still going to do it, it is still on my list.

The running is going a lot better though. I am doing the 10K Sunderland run at the end of April and then the great north run in September.

The garden is coming along, I am pleased with it but I must go faster. My Rhubarb and strawberries are on their way through the post and I have not even started the fruit border

Hopefully I can get out in the garden again this weekend.

I will keep the updates on the blog, with pictures of course.

  • Hi Folks,

  • Hi Folks,

I managed another NSD yesterday so that is 4 out of 5 days, not bad. I am finishing the month with a bang!!!

Well I woke up this morning raring to go in the garden but there is lots of snow on the ground and lots in the air!!!!

What is worse is my Rhubarb crowns have arrived and I really need to get them in the ground!!!!

Oh well, I think today could be a day for updating my blog and doing a bit more seed planning. I think I might try and do some more woodwork in the outhouse, providing I dont freeze out there.

  • Hi Folks,

I managed another NSD on Saturday, but not Sunday as I had to go to B and Q for a couple of extra bits of wood.

The weekend was a bit of a write off as there was thick snow on the ground (I put some pictures on my blog).

However, on a positive note I managed to lose 4lbs last week, so the training is paying off.

  • Hi Folks,

I managed another NSD yesterday and today so another 2, flying at the moment.

Tonight I did a bit of night gardening, I know I must be mad!!!

I had to build the two raised beds for my fruit border tonight as my Rhubarb crowns arrived on Friday and my Strawberry bare roots arrived today. As the weekend was a write-off with the snow I had to get some work done tonight, allbeit in the dark. I have just wrapped some water wet newspaper around the Rhubarb crowns and I soaked the strawberry bare roots in water for 30 minutes and then wrapped wet newspaper around them too. I then put them in my cold outhouse, so hopefully they will ok.

Coming along mf, coming along. :)

I was told at least if there is snow on the ground, it's a protective barrier against the frost?

The snow must be gone now? ( although we still have snow on the tops )
