Money Fritters 'Enough Now' DFW Diary - Chapter 2

Well I watched an episode of the victorian kitchen garden last night, as I have it on DVD. I never tire of that show, it is truly inspiring what the victorians did.
A few years ago I did have a dabble at growing some veg. I managed to grow courgette's, tomatoes and lettuce.
I have some raised beds at the back of the garden.
I have decided that I really would like to get the garden sorted once and for all and have a nice kitchen garden section were I can grow my own fruit and veg next year.
Alot of my garden has become overgrown, due to lack of time really. So I think I might try and get in the garden this weekend and make a start.
I really need to buy a strimmer. However, fortunately I realised I have a £25 B&Q voucher from christmas that I need to use. So I will put that towards buying one this weekend and making a start. In the mean time I might try and sow some courgette seeds in some pots to get me started.
Money Fritter.
I may even start a frugal blog of some sort. Some place where I can put pictures. I don't actually know how you can put pictures on this forumDFW#972 LBM2 (09/07/12) £25938.84; Current £23783.35;Credit Credit Card1 £128.47/£6424.24 (2%);Credit Card2 £443.86/£15663.25 (2.8%); Overdraft £0/£2500 (0%)0 -
MF I have seen some posts where they do put photos so I am sure there is a way - I am not very techy though so can't advise on how to do so!
Good luck with the kitchen garden - I would love to follow your blog with photos. Or you could always do a blogspot blog? i know you did a blog before when you went on your travels.Debt free and Keeping on Track0 -

Thanks MrsP.
I will see what I can do.
I was also watching an interesting thing on some american channel on sky, were more and more people where living 'off the grid'. This family grew all their own food. They used modified veg oil for cars and they had some cool items like a mechanical cog based food blender, it was cool. They even had a home made washing machine.
Although I would be too lazy to do washing manually

Regarding "I know I need to change, but never do"....... Is just so me!
Part of me thinks, why should I change? I'm friendly, loyal, nice and I treat and talk to everyone the same. But I am an open book, I give way too much away. It's only in the last few years that I've realised that this is a problem. People don't forget what you have told them and sometimes use that information for their own ends and manipulate you. The fact that it never registers to me to behave in that manner, means that I'm VERY shocked when it dawns on me that someone is intentionally doing that to you. I feel in the last few years I have grown up and realised that people have their own agendas and not everyone is likeminded. I ve taken some knocks to get me to this point...... But I refuse to believe everyone is like this. I trust everyone...... I want to keep that part of my personality, as it's a huge part of my character, but I need to learn that people need to earn my trust.
Anyway, that was rather in depth for 1:30pm on a Wednesday afternoon :-)
Pleased that you have decided to try again for a kitchen garden.... I'm sooooo not green-fingered. I've tried on numerous occasions to have a lovely garden, but everything seems to die on me. It's a standing joke in this house :-)
Hope all is well with you today :-)

Thanks Enchanted.
Right I have put together a rough outline/plan of my back garden. My back garden gets the sun most of the day; the sun sets at the front of the house.
I have tried to create sections for the garden.
1) A sitting/patio/decking area, also were you can have BBQ's
2) Veg Area - I think I will go with two veg areas. I already have raised brick areas going along the back of the garden, so I will use this for veg. However, I will also have a couple of raised beds in the middle of the garden, maybe with a bit of colour in as well.
3) Then I will have a lawn area; every garden needs a lawn, no matter how small. This section will also have a clothes line hexagon.
4) There is a section up against the kitchen and along the extension which is part paved and part soil. The soil section I will gravel and create a japanese type garden. The paved area I will keep the same.
5) I also have two out-houses almost adjoining the house. These have to stay as they are a shared structure with the neighbour. I have two outhouses; one use to be an old coal shed; at the moment it houses all junk from the house that needs to go to the tip. The other outhouse, which is bigger, contains all the tools. I need to clean out the coal shed and use that for the garden tools. That will give me more space in the other outhouse, to use as a work shop.
There is a lot to do, and I have neglected it for so long.
Now I need to get going, and come up with a plan and a task list

Morning everyone,
I did not manage a NSD yesterday as I spent £1 in work, I gave in to cravings yesterday and bought a bar of choc.
On a positive note, when I weighed myself this morning I had lost 3lbs so far this week, I have got to keep going.
Well last night I sorted out my camera, as my memory card was full of photo's. I transfered them to my computer; so my camera is now ready to rock and roll for my garden blog.
I dug out my old seed box last night. I think some of them might be past the use by date, but I will give them a try next year. I have the following:-
Turnip
Aubergine
Beetroot
Broccoli
Leek
Carrot
Mizuna
Rocket
Chard
Spinach beet
Cabbage
Broccoli
Watercress
Kale
Peppers
Spring onions
Tomatoes
Basil
Lettuce
Courgette
So I will try and start my blog this weekend, by taking photo's of my garden in its current terrible state, and draft a plan of action.
