i'm with sky for tv/phone line & calls/bb, got a small discount currently so we're paying around £73 per month. due to our distance from the exchange, BB speed is only 1MB if we're lucky, this is on the unlimited pack @ £7.50 per month.

Sky have confirmed that Fibre / FTTC is available for us & they've said they'll waive the £50 charge, monthly fee will be £20 & it's a new 12 month contract.

the fibre service is advertised as up to 40MB & sky don't seem able to advise what actual speed i can expect, i don't want to be paying a lot more if we're not going to get a large increase in speed from now. how/where can i get this info? or will it be a case of taking the service & if it doesn't perform, return under the 30 day guarantee?

    thanks :)

So who who will deliver fibre to you as FTTP? Anything else isn't fibre!

Sky Fibre, BT Infinity and Virgin Media FTTC are available to me, and my cabinet has been upgraded (and is infront of next door's house)

Assume you have checked what supposed speed you 'should' get http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/displayCategory.do?categoryId=CON-TOTAL-BB-R1
The closer CAB may or may not be the one you are actually connected to. Incidentally i am only 270 yards from CAB and only can achieve on a good day 42meg throughput, BT dont want to know the 80/20 is just a lifting of the cap.

Regarding lag, i wouldnt go with BT its awefull not uncommon to see 130m/sec+ on single hops hops plus actual rerouting. Customer service dont exist, dont even bother a simple locked IP profile can take three weeks to sort via the BT forum which is far better than email or dialling up India.

Me i would cancel BT line and go www.yourcalls.net £14.21 p/m inc line rental and any time calls 24/7 plus other benefits and 3 months free.
Can still go FTTC as had done with a decent service provider for 14 months before migrating foolishly to BT FTTC, sorry Infinity. Only another 15 months to go and i am out.
Failing that swap everything to Sky.

sky will be our supplier (but i've also checked with BT who advise that infinity is available).
