Should I switch to Sky Fibre?

Options
Hi all,

I'm currently with Sky for TV and Broadband, and BT for calls (can switch to sky, same prices for me)

I currently pay £15 for Broadband (Sky Unlimited) and £60 every 3 months for phone (BT anytime - line rental included, so works out at £20 a month)

Which makes it £35 a month.

Would it be better value for me to switch to Sky Fibre or should I go with someone like BT Infinity?

Thanks!

You should only be paying £10 for Sky broadband unlimited or £7.50 if you are a Sky subscriber if you take your line rental from Sky.

Because I'm with BT for phone and line rental, my broadband went up.

Either way, I ditch Sky Connect (what you have) in a flash if I were you. It's horrible.

I take it BT have upgraded your exchange and cabinet for FTTC?

OP claims to have Sky Unlimited, Connect is as you say awful and has a 40Gb cap.
It used to be possible to have Sky LLU broadband without taking line rental but I believe they stopped doing that some time ago.

Anywho OP is paying too much for what they've got.

It's impossible to answer your question, becaue only you know if you need the extra speed that Infinity can offer. And whatever Infinity can offer, so can the BT resellers, such as Plusnet Fibre, but at a lower price. Or wait for Sky's own FTTC service.

First of all - you don't get fibre - both your scenarios deliver service from BT Openreach via twisated pair copper. Fibre is further up the chain - probably in a FTTC box a few streets away, but don;t be let by the 'fibre' argument - you won't get it - and will be falling for the hype. If you use or need the faster connection, then a evaluation of what is available is a must, but what won't happen is you getting fibre into your house.

Sky Fibre, BT Infinity and Virgin Media FTTC are available to me, and my cabinet has been upgraded (and is infront of next door's house)

As for needing the speed increase, it would help. A LOT. The kids can't play games if someone in the house is using the laptop for internet otherwise it lags so much over Xbox Live or PSN.

I'm right in the city, so it's not Sky Connect that I have, just that my normal connection has been temperamental - numerous router's being sent to me which I've lost count, and still cuts out with no problems on any of the lines, so fibre is the best option for me.

Basi unlimited fibre from Sky costs £20 per month for a 40 down 10 upload connection with unlimited downloads. Line rentals from Sky is £12.50 each month with free weekend and eveneibng calls included (after 7pm to 7am).

You could expect full speeds if you are right near the cabinet, have you checked BT's site for what you can get? Skys Pro version of fibre would get you and 80/20 download upload package and costs £30 per month.

It all depends on what you download as to what package you go for as BT charge £26 for there 76/20 version.

Either way its slightly cheaper. You could take the basic version with Sky Talk rental and uopgrade to anytime calls for an extra £5. At this you would be paying an extra £2.50 over what you pay now and it includes free calls anytime to 20 international destinations if you have relatives abroad.

Oh forgot to say go via Quidco for your upgrade and get £70 which offsets the installation fee. However as you are already with Skybroadband blag them for free installation by phoning and moaning!!
