I dont drive a big powerful car but i do go and see my daughter during the week which is a good travel thats why i pay alot for petrol. I am also with a debt ilimination company clearing up my debts.
Don't know the details of this but hope that you are not with a fee paying company
I would urge you to visit the Debtfree Wannabe forum. There are very supportive posters over there who will go through your income and expenditure with a fine toothcomb to find the very best way of dealing with your debts, freeing up some income, increasing your income so that you can afford a place of your own sooner than later.
In the meantime take on board some of the suggestions about utilising the space you have now.
Looking to the future, the key is doing something about your debts because on your salary you should be able to afford a place of your own.0 -
on £22K you should be more than able to afford rent on a 2 bedroom property! Maybe post your SOA for help on cutting your existing outgoings?
Seriously, on that salary it's about prioritising, budgetting and making it work. You sound like a decent chap who wants to do the best for your daughter & with a bit of help from the experts here I'm sure you'll get there0 -
No they couldnt both my parents and brother have fitted wardobes that take up alot of room so not enough space for a cot.
Down stairs is not an option apart from little space how is she ment to get settled and sleep when people are still up watching tv or moving around making noises in the kitchen.
The problem isnt just the weekends its all week. I have alot of my own stuff aswell as my daughters. Im having to put up and take down cot all the time just to try create some space for myself when she not over.0 -
Hi OP, from what you have said there are no other compromises you can make in terms of space at your parents house, so as others have advised, unless staying with your parents is a long term plan, your best bet is to power on with sorting your debts out and freeing up more of your income so you can afford your own place.
Good luck and all the best0 -

I think people were probably suggesting that you gave up your room for her and slept downstairs....

If its not day to day stuff like clothes, etc, you could consider putting your currently uneeded belongings into storage.
But I agree with the previous posters who suggest you find a better way of making your budget stretch, including a better debt management strategy, so you can get your own cheap place, such as a 1 bed with a sofa bed in the living room for the weekend stays.0 -

I think everyone is sympathetic to your situation. It does seem that fathers in similar situations seem to have a bit of a rough deal but I do think we have tried our utmost to help you.
This isn't going to be easy to solve. I am sorry to say that for the meantime you are going to have to put up with the inconvenience of it all.
As difficult as it is now, try to look to the future and do everything you can to change things around for you and your child.0 -
As your circumstances have changed then your finances will need to as well.
It may well be that you will need to reduce the payments to your debts in preference to priority items, such as paying to rent somewhere suitable for you, and for your daughter to visit at the weekend.
If you are paying a debt elimination(?) company already then it sounds like you have already defaulted on your debts. Suggest you contact a debt advice charity for some free impartial advice on what it best for you in your current situation that will allow you to pay your priority costs.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for all the help and suggestions guys. I am on a decent wage but do have things to pay off which im doing well with as i was in 22k worth of debt few years ago and now its down to about 8k. I can put a good lump some of money each month into savings which can help towards getting my own place in the not to distant future.0
