I guess I'm asking do people still wear trainers for ease and comfort when walking to work??

My trainers don't smell too, well at least I hope they don't :rotfl:

What a daft bunch of friends you have. Just wondering how they would manage in the snow when no buses are running and the only way to get to work is walking. :D

At least if you change near to work the trainers will have a bit of breeze to clear them out.

There again my Boss cycles in full cycling gear and showers and changes at work.

    Sounds perfectly acceptable to me!

I often bring my trainers into work in a carrier bag then change into them in the office at lunch time and go for a walk. A lot of people in my office cycle in or go jogging at lunch time so we see all kinds of sportswear in the office and no one minds!

Plenty of people, men and women, do on my commute. Trainers only smell when you have a foot problem or the shoes are very well used or worn and both problems can be sorted very quickly.
  • I know plenty of people who do this, some people I know who cycle or run into the office take a shower and get dressed when they arrive.

Why would anyone be bothered if you come in wearing trainers - odd point of view from your friends

Either your friends are very odd (or very girly girls) or they are winding you up !

Make sure you take a decent bag (sports bag with a zip NOT an Aldi carrier bag) to store your trainers in so no nasty niffs escape into the office as if you' get known as "the girl with the smelly trainers under her desk" your first week -it may not be good for promotion prospects ;) but otherwise-don't worry about it.

On the commuter services into London it's very normal to see dressed up to the nines career women in trainers -and they change into heels as the train arrives into the city -same in New York -you're just like them :) Tell them it's what Carrie in SATC would do !!

(Edited to reflect it's a girl issue not a bloke issue :D)

  • Ahh, I'm not in London. I am in Liverpool. Very girly girl friends.
  • I wear trainers to work and change there, I have work shoes under my desk. No-one bats an eyelid.

What an odd reaction from your friends!!

I often wear trainers to and from work and change into my heels when Im at my desk – I also keep a bottle of footspray in my drawer for keeping my trainers pong free and as a nice refreshing cool mist for my tootsies!

Loads of people where I work commute in trainers (some cyclists, some walkers) then change when they get into work. It's perfectly acceptable and no one has ever complained.

If you have particularly smelly trainers then you could get some of the deodorant spray for feet/trainers to keep and work and give them a spray when you take them off.

OP, just send your mates down to London- I'd lose count if I started trying to work out how many people I see doing this!

And then let her know that all the world seem to decend on London to study at the art and fashion based courses as well as large fashion based magazines Elle, Vogue and Grazia to name a few, all are based in London. I'm not saying fashion in London is better then elsewhere, just that there is more of it and its obviously been attracting quite a few fashion types for many years now.

And bunions are no fun when your 30, spending your teens and twenties in pointed shoes or heels is well known to bring on bunions in many people. Bunions are very painful to repair and sadly the repair when done, rarely offers a result which looks 'perfect'.
