Make up trial disaster - what to do now?

Hi all,

had my make up trial and it was a total disaster, I had the airbrush make up and as the beautician was doing it she kept telling me i looked flawless (I had no access to a mirror at this point). When i finally saw myself I looked terrible the make up had settled very unflatteringly into every crease and looked caked on, it has really knocked my confidence, I can't pass a mirror without obsessing about lines. I'm wearing my usual day to day make up now and look fine yes there's the odd fine line here and there but not the deep crators that showed up on my trial.

so my question is should I do my own make up or keep searching for a good make up artist?

Are many of you doing your own make up? i was thinking of getting my nails and lashes done professionally and doinf the rest myself, on the plus side my hair trial was awesome.

Im having a Jemma Kidd make up party, they come to your house and show you how to put your make up on, i dont wear much make up but would like to wear a bit more on my big day, im also getting married in france so I thought it would be easier than getting in someone I dont know without having a trial. Good luck with whatever you decide xx

My first trial went the same as yours - I never wear make up so wanted it to look really natural and she produced an air gun and tangoed me! From a distance and in photos it looked ok but not want I felt comfortable in. I ended up getting it done by a friends friend at the Dior counter in House of Fraser and it was brilliant.

I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere if you aren't 100% happy with it!

Unfortunatley air guns can do that and my friend who is a make up artist said really, unless you already have pretty flawless skin (so 0.111111% of the population) thats what tends to happen. Id do yourself or try an artist who doesnt use the gun? x

Follow your instincts, get your nails and lashes done.

    Do the rest yourself.

The nails and lashes will make you feel special.

Your own make up will make you feel comfortable and you wont be worrying..........and spoiling the day.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

  • I've heard good things about the Bobbi Brown bridal make-up service if you wanted to try that. Otherwise, perhaps look on wedding forums for recommendations - hitched.co.uk is quite extensive and I don't think you have to be a member to look on the forums...

What did the make-up artist say after your reaction - did they offer any advice / alternatives?

My wife hated the makeup done at her trial...I don't think there was anything particularly bad about it, but she said she didn't look like herself. In the end, she got some tips from one of the girls on the Benefit counter, bought a couple of extra products and did it herself. A bit more work on the day, but she was happier knowing she looked the way she likes to look.
  • I felt the same after my trial at bare minerals. Im only 26 and felt my eyes looked 40 (an exageration maybe!) with the crows feet. She did say to me though that i had dry eyes and suggested using an eye cream. I have used one every day for a week or so now and i do see a big difference. Might be the same for you??

Beauticains are only trained in the basics, try to find a Makeup Artist. Makeup counters also train their staff. I did a HND in makeup artistry but as my mum n sis are having a MUA i didnt want to be left out. that was last min though and i had a trial at chanel...£25 But can take off from the price of a product. Bobbi brown did a free trial although i spent a fortune! I would say go for another trial with a MUA and see how you feel. Ive just had my lashes and nails done for thursday, loving it!
