Thanks for this OP. I bought one a few months ago, and fortunately haven't needed it. I hope to keep it that way, and check it each week to make sure it is working properly.0

As I don't have gas I don't have one but definately agree with them.
I know someone whose alarm went off and saved them. A bird had got into the chimney and blocked the flue! :eek:Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

We have one on the window ledge in our kitchen. Luckily it's never gone off but it's so reassuring to know it's there.0

Ditto sneezyboots. It's one of those things that you just keep thinking 'must get one of them' and then completely forget about it. Thanks to this thread, I've just ordered one!

Nice one OP xSome people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass

We have one that went off randomly once about 3 weeks ago, we took it outside and checked the boiler etc couldnt see anything obvious and brought the machine back in, all was fine. It then went off about a week later so we got a bloke round to service our very old boiler. (with me in a huge panic about it leaking gas without us knowing)
He couldnt find anything wrong and no leak but serviced the boiler (it was overdue)
2 days after he left bloomin thing went off again, this time i had put something on it - turns out that when the 'test' button is hit it will go off and flash like its detected something ! one of our cats must have walked over it the first couple of times it went off
well worth the money though for piece of mind :TBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais

I almost died from a blocked flue in a rented house. Me and my partner had splitting headaches for ages before I collapsed. (headaches are a sign of CM poisoning, it's worth just knowing that)Agreed - and also, if you have student children moving into rented houses this September then buy them a Carbon Monoxide detector. It's £15 to £20 that could save a lot of lives.
A few years ago my partner and were poisoned by a faulty boiler in a rented house. We recovered but we were very, very lucky and now I wouldn't be without an alarm.
I am now paranoid about them, I have 2 normal ones and one which shows the percentage of CM in the air. So I can see a problem before a normal alarm would go off.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

So pleased that you are getting one
We don't have an mantlepiece/fireplace and I can't have it within reach of a nosey destructive 3 year old lol, that's why I thought best bet would be on the wall
