Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 8th July. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, soplease don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning everyone :D

Good Morning ,here I am wide awake at silly o'clock.Blooming damp got my old bones rattling and aching this morning.I think my joints could do with some oiling:DSometimes it helps if I get up for a short while and move about then go back to bed, gets them sort of 'unset' iykwim

I am still grinning to myself about all the goodies my DD turned up with yesterday. Its weird, this month (unbeknownst to her ) I am being especially frugal to save extra pennies towards next months holiday with youngest DD and tribe so she couldn't have found a better time to bring me some bargains.:jShe is a good lass, but because she has a really busy high pressure job I sometimes only get to see her maybe once a week,I understand, as I know how stretched she can get especially before the end of term so it was even nicer yesterday, as she arrived and stayed for most of the afternoon.
She's off to Devon for a fortnight at the end of the month and I think she will really need a nice break to recharge her batteries.
Today ,depending on the weather youngest DD and the boys and I are going to Mersea Island for a mooch around, and a wander down on the beach.I lived there for a couple of years back in the 1960s and I promised the boys I would show them what it was like. I don't suppose its changed an awful lot since then.It was always a quiet, peaceful place,we may stop on the way back as I have friends who live just outside Colchester whom I haven't seen for awhile They are DDs godparents and I promised if we had time we would pop in and see them

I baked so much stuff yesterday a big fruit cake,a dozen oaty bars,a lemon drizzle cake and some fairy cakes for the boys. The only one I didn't get done was DDs coffee cake, but I might whip that up this morning first thing as I know she is looking forward to it.Less than 6 weeks till our holidays and they are getting excited already.I hope the weather brightens up a bit.It really has been a very damp squib of a summer so far.
I watch the ladies doubles last night and the Williams sisters were brilliant Doubles matches are a lot quicker result wise I think and very exciting .Fingers crossed for Andy Murray this afternoon,DD will sky+ it if we do manage to get out to Essex.
Well I think I fancy a nice hot cuppa and a lightly buttered pain killer to get my joints a bit more mobile
I hope you all have a great day whatever you are doing, and those affected by the floods, I hope its not too serious for you
Take care everyone

Morning Jackie & all who cross/follow
I hope you have a nice time in Mersea
I'm up early too, though going to bed at 10 & up at 5:30 is my preferred time so hubby being on the late shift all the time is playing havoc with my sleep pattern.
Wet washing everywhere, I have some on the covered line, some on the maidens & some on the radiators, hopefully it will all dry soon.
Plans today include some ironing & lots of sitting about & lots of taking care of hubby, the poor chap is doing a split shift Monday, 6:30 to 12 & then 3 'til 10. He's done 10 hours overtime in the last 3 days. I'm worn out just because I'm lacking sleep, he's exhausted, still he'll sit with his feet up and watch the GP today with a beer & a steak sandwich & an extra treat from me, I'll let you guess what sort, lol.
I am borrowing an old laptop from a friend this week, so I'm hoping to get on with my Bio, I still cannot sit long at the PC as my ankle swells up.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

Morning JackieO and HH and all who cross and follow.

Been awake since 4am oh joy! Not sure why but feel quite unsettled with the bedroom decorating. May try and go back to bed in a minute....

Hope everyone is ok with all the rain and flooding.

    Morning all.

    JackieO

Hope the tea and painkiller has helped and you feel better.

    Hester

    Enjoy the GP etc. etc.;)

DH is downstairs as he woke early and dds are still asleep.

Youngest was out with friends but needs to start work at 9.30 so DH will give her a lift and I'll offer to make her breakfast. Middle dd did a sponsored charity walk of fifteen miles yesterday so was shattered and had early night.

DH offered to drive me to bathroom showroom sometime today and an Aldi is nearby so I can do a quick shop.

Have gammon for lunch which dh and one of dds love and will spice some chicken thighs for others with small yorkies, carrots, green beans and cabbage with onion and apple. Will need to check whether we go shopping before or after lunch and work around that.

Last night's washing was hung on the pulley overnight and if it does not rain might hang it outside later.

Desperate for cup of tea so tiptoing downstairs.

    Hug to all

    Morning everyone,

JackieO you have a lovely family.

Hester Look after OH and yourself.

Another one here who is waking early again. I think it is the birds waking me up and then I just can't get back to sleep again.

OH is off cycling for the day and both of the girls have parties to go to. DS may go to Trent Bridge and watch the cricket depending on the weather and I am in the middle of a big decluttering session.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning JackieO and all,

dogs woke me up an hour ago as they needed to go outside.

Hubby is mithering about changing the car again. It would be really nice if he stuck to one for longer than 6 months.

Havent got anything planned for my day. Theres a new garden centre i'd like to check out but we'll see.

I need to list a few bits on eb*y but that can wait till tonight. I need to use the rhubarb that is growing furiously in the garden. Might do hubby a crumble later as he is the only one who will eat it. Nothing in my day is set in stone though but thats how i like it.

    morning all

JO i love hearing all about your family and what you get up to you sound such a close knit family , its lovely :T enjoy your day out x

went to bed early last night as I had a strop and needed to be on my own , the result was i fell asleep much earlier (around 10pm) and woke at 7 :j so I feel like ive had a proper sleep at last :D

So far today ive cleaned the kitchen , sorted the mounds of washing ready to iron , fed the guinea pigs - must remind DD2 they need cleaning out, they whiff abit  and pulled the lamb joint out of the fridge to cook for later

I took DD1 to a diy shop yesterday and bought bits and bobs so she can start stripping her room , she wants to decorate it herself ( i got her a book for 1p on how to decorate, its lovely it has a large section on painting, wallpapering etc but also a bigger section on soft furnishings :j hopefully it will help her to accomplish the whole room from start to finish ( obviously she has mum as her able assistant ;))

I have started decluttering , ive done some of the kitchen cupboards but need to continue, DD2 has cleaned her room - at last , just need to get DH onboard ( the main culprit) but that will a task in itself i fear- still if not i will do it myself without him knowing ;)

hope everyone has a peaceful sunday xx

My alarm went off at 6:30 ... I shut my eyes for a mere moment and suddenly it was 8:30!! Hate when that happens - feel like I have missed half the day already. So much to do today too!

I don't know what is wrong with me at the moment but I don't seem to have any motivation to do anything. I know that there are all these things I should be doing but by the end of the day I have only ticked one thing off my to do list. Maybe it is the weather!

jackieo sounds like a delicious cake making session. hope you have a good time on mersea island, I've not heard of it before so am reading about it now.
    HH enjoy :D
sistercas hope DD has fun and learns a lot for the future.
judi wish my OH would mither about changing the car, or maybe even washing it? he's had it almost a year and never washed it and he got it dirty and scratched

    Morning and ((hugs)) all.
I've been up a while but my brain is still half asleep so I don't know what I'm going to do today. Probably not much as the weather is still awful and I have OU work to do. Pork shoulder joint for lunch, only have tinned potatoes so don't know what I'll do about roasties

    Morning!
Sun early here, now grey. The poor boys who were painting my house had to give up yesterday with only a quarter left to do because oft the rain:mad:
They may be back today. One of them is my friends' son, and they have just started up, so I wanted them to have the job. Feel like I've not paid them enough tho!:rotfl:

Going to get DD and DGD this morning. SIL is working, so they are coming to dinner and watching Murray with us. Going to try "Beer butt chicken" where you stick the chicken on top of a can of lager! Saw it on Food Network, looks interesting:rotfl:

Cat got the hump yesterday when we de-fleaed him, so he is ignoring OH and myself at the moment:rotfl:

Anyway, have a good day all, let's all root for Andy!

    Good Morning All

JackieO - don't know if you are on your way but the weather is horrible here - Mersea is just across the water from us so I doubt if its much better there :(

Absolutely torrential rain at the moment, dont think it has stopped all night. Doesn't matter too much as doing housework this morning then hopefully off to see Spiderman later.

Really really not sure what is for dinner, will have to raid the freezers, need wellies and a waterproof before I go to the one in the garage :rotfl:

    Have a great day all.x
