It's not you chapess,;);),
anyway they treat both sexes the same on here (badly).I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

As I think I said in a previous post, I've had some good experiences with having work done and some awful experiences and I'm still reeling from the most recent one.
I am sure that there are lots of tradesmen who could say the same about people they've worked for - but I'm not one of the bad guys. I think part of the problems I had with the last builder was that I was too soft and too trusting, although that doesn't excuse the way he behaved.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

I guess the clue is in your name Noel Phobic!
Once again, I'm another who has learned to trust his instincts. There are three ways to make a decision; the head, the wallet & the heart. The heart very rarely lets you down!
I used to inflate the price to price myself out of it. However when I had one accepted I was then obliged to do it and the miserable little b itch (92 approx, 4' 10" scot) totally screwed me by simply refusing to pay. Her response was "sue me". One can easily imagine the scene in court. Me 6' 4" and 17stone vs the poor little old lady (tears on tap)...
There are complete b stards out there just waiting to pray on us unsuspecting trades people and your heart (feelings) is the only thing you have to guide you as to the potential risks. If anyone wants to start a Rogue Customers thread (and sod the consequences) I'll donate a few names and addresses.
To answer the OP original question, we do it principally so as not to offend - but it doesn't work. I now simply call a day later apologise and say I've landed a contract that will take me six months. That way you don't screw your rep. All together now, "Always look on the bright side of life..." :whistle:0 -
Its been a while since i had someone round to fit a kitchen / bathroom or decorate.
Round my way i think £150 per day for 1 worker is a fair price. I've had a decorator as cheap as £90 per day and she was great. A top notch plasterer at £120.
They have to cover unpaid days and operating costs so finger in the air £150 i think is about right.
This is midlands prices. A lot them i can tell add on an extra day for 5 days quoted and a half for smaller jobs.0 -

Thought it was just me:rotfl::rotfl:, although I recall it as having the decorators in.
And sorry op, just the warped sense of humour of a certain few;)I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

nothing wrong with a warped sense of humour, I've certainly got one!
Just to add, it's not unusual for someone to come out and price a job and then never get back to the customer at all. This doesn't just happen to me either! I guess this is another way of saying you don't want the job.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -

I think that is the ultimate example of rudeness. If a firm did that to me, I would broadcast it to anyone else who asked me for a recommendation. I'd prefer them just to say that they didn't want the job. I have had one example of a decorating quote from a firm which didn't want the job. The other 2 quotes were around £800-£1000 and the third was around £2.5-£3 K0
