Thanks for the replies so far

The mondeo does make sense I've also thought about a volvo v70, always like them , but not very economic unless i go for a 2.0d model.

When looking at your "normal market cars" to your "more desirables" I'd take a normal every day of the week.

I am looking for an estate car at the moment, looking to spend £7k - £10k.

As a Honda owner for past 2 cars the new shape Accord Tourer is on my list. have looked at Mondeo, Passat, and Avensis.

A friend of mine, who drives a BMW told me to look at the 3 series, and Audi. for the same money I may get a car 2 or 3 years old that the ones above, with the same spec, or much smaller (3 series) and again 1 or 2 years older.

If you like the Mondeo I'd go for it, I reckon you'll get more for your money than buying the Mercedes...

i would research that honda. insurance group, gearbox issues (mainly civics have the trouble but not limited to those) as a neighbours jazz with 30k on clock has failed its internal box bearings and selector (just like the modern civics do).

Yes buy the Merc, Its dearer to run, Less comfortable and will empty your pockets every trip to the dealers.

Me i would choose the Mondeo. For £13,000 it may even have some manufacturers warranty left.

    I paid £8500 for a 59 plate with a years warranty left.
compared to gadgets youll lose out on the mondeo
What is on the Merc that isn't on a Mondeo Titanium which can be bought at 2 years old with 20k on the clock and 12 months manufacturer warranty for around £10k? Do you get DAB on the Merc? Full voice control of phone, climate control etc?

It would be helpful if you could let us know where one could source suach a deal (Mondeo)?

One more vote for researching the Honda. I had a 2006 Civic (2.2 diesel) and was a money pit. Clutch failed at 39k miles (known issue), then two other failures in 6 months. Also the paint was very very soft and full of stone chips. On top of everything, rust had started appearing on both rear doors. Swiftly sold and never again will buy one.

I now have a 55 reg Focus (MK2). What an improvement.

Did they come up with the usual claptrap that they don't use APRs, sounds like Arnold Clark, they tried this with the MIL, she leased instead.
