Cant decide?
Hello
I can't decide between a 2007 new shape Mercedes C220 cdi se or a Mondeo.
Driven both , mondeo drives better, more comfortable, quieter, and more economic. But Merc although smaller with a slightly jiggly ride in my opinion would prob be better long term? The Mercedes is from main dealer at £13k with around 50k on clock.
Any thoughts or advice?
thanks

I'm confused. You haven't listed a single way that you think the Merc is better. What makes you think it would be better long term?0 -
Yes buy the Merc, Its dearer to run, Less comfortable and will empty your pockets every trip to the dealers.
Me i would choose the Mondeo. For £13,000 it may even have some manufacturers warranty left.
It wont be 5 years old. 2007 Mondeo can be picked up for around £2000. For the older MK3 shape, Or £3000 for a MK4 shape.
Cant see where the extra £10,000 offers anything extra?
Mercedes are not what they were. They too are built down to a price not upto a standard.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
yes I know what you mean guys, i was disappointedly underwhelmed with the Mercedes it was pretty average for a prestige brand. I guess i'm drawn to that because of the "badge" which has probably clouded the judgement of many before me too?
If i did a blind "taste test" there is only one winner the Mondeo. I test drove a demo 1.6d zetec with the new engine which was £15999 slightly over my budget , but all the same remarkably quiet and comfortable. I can afford maybe a two or three year old model,0 -
no to merc yest to ford, compared to gadgets youll lose out on the mondeo but who cares when the ride handling and over all quallity and feel is better than a merc.
tyres are expensive and older models can rip through a set like a knife through butter, aftermarket parts are jsut as dear as main dealer bits and come time to do the timing well expect to pay on the + side of £500 biggies.0 -
Hi Borgman
You could say I'm biased, as I have a C270 CDI (2002) that I've owned since 2006. However, we also have a 2008 Vectra (since 2010) which replaced an older Vectra (Vectrawhich we had since 2002.
We only do very low mileages but since 2006, have spend far more on the Vectras, than on the Merc (which only needs servicing every 2 years).
Although MB main dealers can be more pricey (but on olders models, not that much more), the service you get is worlds apart (in my humble opinion). Also, in general, independent Merc specialists, offer great value for money too.
Of course, it's a matter of choice but I would go for a Mercedes.
Cheers

Without a bit of objectivity as too why ?
My BIL has a 2005 mercedes C and over the last 18 months has spent 2k in repairs & servicing.
My work colleague has a 2001 Mondeo Ghia with 179k on clock and has replaced a wheel bearing in 6 years (100k) of ownership.Mortgage free

When looking at your "normal market cars" to your "more desirables" I'd take a normal every day of the week.
I am looking for an estate car at the moment, looking to spend £7k - £10k.
As a Honda owner for past 2 cars the new shape Accord Tourer is on my list. have looked at Mondeo, Passat, and Avensis.
A friend of mine, who drives a BMW told me to look at the 3 series, and Audi. for the same money I may get a car 2 or 3 years old that the ones above, with the same spec, or much smaller (3 series) and again 1 or 2 years older.
If you like the Mondeo I'd go for it, I reckon you'll get more for your money than buying the Mercedes...0 -
What about a diesel Jag XF? Plenty about for £12k 2008 reg. Its a damn good looking car too, unlike the mondeo or merc0

I sold my 2007 E Class a few weeks ago and I'm quite relieved. The car was costing a huge amount in repairs and servicing and the dealers and customer service terrible. The car itself was fine but I was always waiting for the next fault to occure. The AA tow back to the dealers was the last straw.
I looked for a brand new car and after visiting BMW and similar I chose a .........KIA!0 -
i wouldn't buy audi / merc / bmw / mini with my own cash, there are much better value cars out there. company cars definitely audi / bmw / maybe merc? own cash toyota / honda / mazda or recent one a seat (the first three cost nothing more than routine servicing and tyres in 3-4 years ownership) I'll see how the seat fairs over time.0
