Sounds like a great idea to me. Catholic or Protestant, it will give those who are forced to take 2 days off work when they dont want to, something to look forward to.
Imagine having to take two days off work because your employer says they are closing AND are paying you to sit at home. Nightmare.0 -
Well actually for me it is!! I cant walk down the street on these days cos the town is full of drunken louts making !!!!!! of themselves. Everything is closed except pubs and these are filled with the above mentioned louts. This is not fun for me. :eek:0

Where the hell do you live? Lets not manufacture problems through perception ... it is no different to virtually every Friday/Saturday night and 101 other 'festive' days .. including FA cup, Gaelic championship, St Paddies day etc. I hate drunks around me as well but like everywhere in this world there will be dates and areas where we can all think of reasons to avoid .. however in this community we seem to have a lot of people from bioth sides that expend massive amounts of energy and time so that they can be in exactly the right area so that they can be offended.Well actually for me it is!! What we should be aiming for is that thiings like St Paddies day and the 12th July and soe other 'celebrations' to become major tourist attractions ... but before that happens we have to learn to tolerate and enjoy each others cultures.

Well the 12th has certain stigmas attached to it that you may not see in the other 101 events, such as civil unrest violent or otherwise. I’m not attaching any blame to that comment but I think it’s fair to say that as good intentioned the majority of people are on that day there is a small minority on both sides that have, more in the past created quite allot of trouble that you probably wouldn’t see in the other celebrations. Trouble enough for this conversation to even exist so that in itself is my main concern.
In any case we went down last night with our parents for a look around. We’ve decided this is the venue for us but alas the bank Holiday Monday is already taken. We are seriously considering the 12th but well decide over the coming week.
Cheers for the advice guys.

Problem solved!
Managed to secure some time off in the first week of term 2008 (Working in education is a pain)
We are now getting married on the bank Holiday in August.
Many thanks for the input once again guys!

OP
To be fair to you at least you have taken the time to consider the date and the impact it may have on some of your guests.
As for me if I was invited to a wedding on the 12th I probably wouldn't go as I would much prefer to be at one of the 12th demonstrations and there are many like me. However if you are prepared to have some of your Protestants friends not show up then the 12th should be an ok date for you.0 -
Congrats! Hope it all goes well0
