This is what I thought and I very much doubt they'll make any exceptions...
Could I put the flights on eBay?

It is not possible to sell flights on ebay unless you are a registered travel agent.

You aren't going to the wedding, so have you spent all the money you would for the wedding? outfit, present etc?

Would you have this money for alternative accommodation?

Yes but they would have to pay the £70 change fee + any difference in fare.

Making it cheaper for them to buy a flight themselves independent of your offer.

You can claim taxes back. However there will be an admin fee possibly not making it worthwhile.

How do you claim the taxes back? I've looked and we paid £90.99 (inc taxes outbound) and £74.49 (inc taxes inbound) each.... Plus bags!

It is only the APD they refund

If I haven't travelled can I reclaim any of the airport taxes?

You may apply in writing to us for a refund of Air Passenger Duty (APD) if a ticket has not been used. However, in all cases, we charge an administration fee of 40GBP/ 53EUR/ 78CHF/ 1420CZK/ 220PLN for each booking requiring a refund

example Manchester to Malaga is £13 APD on the way out and £34 'other airport charges'. for the return it is £0 APD and £32 'other airport charges'....so they would refund the £13 but charge you £40 to do it!

How so? If they aren't looking to change the date the friend would save £140 compared to buying direct by my calculation (assuming tickets aren't currently cheaper when booking direct).
