Kitchen units end piece

Dear all

I am having a kitchen fitted at the moment. The fitters have fitted end unit pieces to finish the sides. These end pieces are about 6-8mm shy of the edge of the door of the unit.

I am only aware of the end pieces should finishing flush with doors. I disputed this and they claim it is a design feature!

Has anyone heard of this before?

Many thanks

Look in the manufacturers brochure for examples. It sounds wrong but without knowing more its hard to say.

If they are decorative end panels they normally would finish behind the door, ie inline with the base and the top and the other side. that's if they have replaced the end or the carcase. If large decor sheets are cut down and fitted over the existing carcase end, then yes they can finish flush with the doors and still allow the doors to open.

    Maybe a picture would help?

if your units are normal size depth then i would say its a mistake in the fitting.
All end panels either wall or base are supplied oversized and then cut to size as doors can de different thickness.
eg - base unit 560mm deep door 18mm or 22mm = 578 or 582 deep end panels from all my suppliers are at least 605 deep
    wall panels 350 etc

I was going to correct you there, but you came back quickly, ;)there still are kitchen ranges where the decor end panel is part of the carcase,

A decent designer should design these panels to finish flush with the door or even slightly overhang them. Finishing it at carcase level or short of doors is not acceptable.

Is it the case that the wall has run out leaving a gap behind the last unit and to cloak this gap, they have simply moved the panel back leaving you with this funny looking finish on the panel?

Well the question to ask then is what sort of decent company designs furniture with panels that are only carcase depth or slightly deeper? It partially defeats the point of having a panel.

I suspect the kitchen company or fitters are trying to pull a fast one here.

Magnets end panels are the depth of the carcass a d not the carcass plus the door thickness. Thy sell thousands of kitchens. Howdens end panels fit flush with the door, which I think look better.

you're wrong they all do this and it looks fine, the doors sit over the carcase, no problems.

Now you are wrong. They certainly do not all do this. Howdens finish flush with the door.

And whether they look fine or not is a matter of opinion.
