The LL has called. He's apologised for his outburst and wants us to stay. He wants to drop off a dehumidifier off tomorrow to dry the room out then try to find out what is happening. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, be happy or angry. I don't know what I want or what to do for the best.
I don't get it. This has been a horrible 24 hours and yet I've had it all took away and I still don't feel any better.
Going to log off for tonight guys. I'm off to bed with a hot choc. I can't believe what is happening.0 -
I have just contacted a LL via gumtree. There is a house on there that is in the middle of the council estate in my village. They don't require a bond though so maybe jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire? Can but see.
I'm not supposed to be dealing with this but I can't just switch off. I was the same the last time round.
Well done you and I probably would feel the same...at least you klnow there are alternatives out there...7_week_wonder wrote: »Oh my goodness I'm so excited! OH is out and I have to tell someone, and nobody else will understand like you folks.......
I've made pasties!! For years I've always been awful at making pastry but I've recently been given a Kenwood Chef and this weekend I've been experimenting. For the first time ever I've managed to make pastry that I could roll out (ok my circles were a little geometrically challenged!) I've put some chickpea and potato filling in the middle and they are almost ready to take out of the oven. One has cracked, but the others look pretty good!
Sorry for crashing in like this, but I'm so happy:T
I like a pasty and having seen how easy theuy are to make on Nigel Slater's food programme on Friday I may have a go...I have Kenwood Chef which has never ever been used...and what has stopped me lately as much as anything is the cost of putting an oven on and I am watching the cost of utility bills. If I had a go I could do different flavours to shop one's and even do a sweet pasty...
But well done you:)The LL has called. He's apologised for his outburst and wants us to stay. Hope you have a peaceful night Fuddle, LL should realise you are not complaining because you like doing so and has been said earlier who else would put up with what you are? Besides it is not douing his property any good allowing it to deteriorate.
Perhaps he got scared by what your OH said...also what may happen if the authorities start looking around...it may all work out after all and you can stay put for your job and your Daughters schooling:T"A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

FUDDLE - take some time and think it through, talk it through with your DH and let yourself calm down over this upset before you make any kind of decision on what to do. You can't be clear minded when coloured by emotion. You have coped with this brilliantly, despite having the panic attack, here you are less than 24 hours later being the strong and feisty you we've all come to admire. I wonder if he's realised how lucky he is to have you as tenants, as I doubt many other people would have let him get away with saying 'oh it was like it when I lived there and it wasn't a problem for me!' He would have been forced to do the repairs by the environmental health department and he knows it! Sleep you well little one, Tomorrow as they say is another day and who knows what good things that will bring you? Cheers Lyn xxx.0

I thought he would. He's realised you are good tenants and he is cutting his nose off to spite his face. Be mellow.0 -
Fuddle - have a good evening, and then tomorrow start to think about what it is you actually want now, not what LL wants just you and your family. It may be that you feel that this has shown that it really is time to move on or it may be that you feel that its given you a chance to get sorted and then move, its now your choice, which is good. If you do decide to stay make sure you are clear that you will not accept that sort of behaviour again and that the stress he has caused is not acceptable.
OH has brought pasta in tonight, is it wrong that I groaned, I dont feel up to trying to squeeze any more in. 10kg of pasta is a big bag and two of them is alot of space. Kids all groaned as they reckon they will be eating pasta none stop for weeks - they probably are not far wrong.0 -
Oh Fuddle, double edged sword, hardly surprising you don't feel any better. Go sleep, take a breathe and work out with DH / OH what you want to do. If you stay then you both need to make sure the LL realises bullying is not acceptable.
I hope you find peace and sleep.

Evening all
fuddle you have done so well. I agree with kidcat. Work out what you want with a clear head and go from there. I suggest getting your landlord to agree to the repairs in writing so you have proof. Have a good nights sleep and take care xxxx
PAH. I am so glad you got a parcel. You really deserve it and the dog is so cute. I'm sure that given the word you would have an army of us on your doorstep to decorate for you. I'm a dab hand with a paint brush. Take care xxx
Well done 7WW. I am sure they will taste fab :T
Hugs to all that want them xxx
Well DH is in holiday mode which means that he wants to spend money. So far I have managed to direct it to mostly things we need, like a wall light over the sofa for reading, a new ceiling light in the living room, some new work shirts and a giant picture of Charlie Chaplin that DH fell in live with in Ikea. I have to admit that it is looking great on the living room wall. DS1 says that it is going to make people think of Hitler. I think that child needs to watch some classic silent films.
I made a foolish promise to DS2 and I'm attempting to make schnecken ( Over the top sticky cinnamon buns). The first lot of dough was a disaster as I forgot to activate the yeast first and just put it in with the flour. So I was up at 8am this morning making another batch. Then DS2 informs me that he wants to spend the day at Games Workshop so the dough went in the fridge. The next time I make a promise like this I am going to do it with something that doesn't have what feels like a gazillion stages.
I also need to turn a huge tray of roasted peppers, sweet potatoes and squash into soup and make chicken curry for dinner. We are going away tomorrow and I needed to use up the contents of the fridge.
Tomorrow will be spent packing, making flapjacks and Nutella Krispie treats and worrying about where I have left my passport.
I will be reading along and posting when I get the chance, so don't talk to much you chatty lot.
Take care xxxxx0 -
Fuddle - I am sure you are feeling somewhat relieved but also a bit like you have been shoved through a wringer. The cynic in me says that your LL has had time to make enquiries and has found out that it would not be that easy to get rid of you, and that he could get into a fair bit of bother with the authorities. Plus the fact that you have always paid your rent on time, and that getting and vetting new tenants would be a hassle, and would they put up with sub standard accommodation the way you have?
As others have said, you and your OH need to decide what you want to do. You are all ok for the present, but do you have any guarantees that your LL will behave himself in future? If it were me, I would still be looking on the QT for alternative accommodation, because I get the feeling your time in that property is coming to a close and you are probably ready to move on to somewhere better.
Whatever you decide, you will get through it and hopefully gain something good from the experience. One life - your life - live it!0 -
Ooof - I am absolutely stuffed! Well my pasties aren't going to win any beauty contests and Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood would not have been impressed as there was a hint of soggy bottom - but hey - a girl's got to start somewhere, and the initial tasting was pretty satisfactory!
Quick question - how do you roll pastry out so it comes out in a circle (or something vaguely like a circle) mine always ends up looking like a map of Australia!!
Fuddle - I'm not suprised you are still feeling stressed, you've really been put through the mill over the last 24 hours. Like everyone says, I hope your hot chocolate will work its magic and you get a good night's sleep. Then tomorrow you and OH can work out what *you* want and what's best for you - take care and sleep well.
SDG31000 - I've just googled schnecken and feel a Christmas holiday experiment coming on!
I hope nobody minds me joining in sporadically. I love following you guys, but never seem to have much useful to say, or time to post during the day - and this thread moves so fast by the time I come to reply to something another upteen pages have been and gone!
Edited to add: I don't know if this is any use to anyone - but yesterday in Mr M they had 5kg of onions for £1.49. I snapped up a bag and I was pretty impressed with them. I was kind of expecting slightly dodgy onions, but these look like they will store well (though not if I keep using them for onion tarts, pasties etc!)0 -
7ww - mine always used to look like a map of Australia too! It's because one arm is stronger than the other so even pressure is difficult to achieve. I have improved by doing a LOT of work rolling out icing, and have now got the hang of it. Using 3mm guides helped as it meant it didn't get too thin, and I was more aware of the shape. You need to move the pastry every time you see it start to grow too much in any direction. And roll it bigger than you need and cut the circle out :-)0
