made egg and bacon for brunch and Oh has gone back to bed for a while. Am making up parcels of Christmas stuff promised to charities. Will put pics on my blog tonight. If anyone would like any of the padded, scented stockings or hearts let me know, they only cost pennies to make so am happy to do them - my gift to you guys x
D&DD yesterday went well, think the psychologist is besotted with DGS who behaved very well. She is pushing for speech therapy before he is 3 and setting everything in place for then. I didnt go with them as I think the less people = less stress. Am always conscious of not being in the way unless needed. I dont want to be a pushy MIL although Dd's Oh does appreciate us as his Mum is 2 miles away and less than useless, she hasnt seen DGS since he was 6 months old. TBh none of her children want anything to do with her as she is poison.
Tessamum, Im going to try those hm ferrero rochers this year.

Good luck Fuddle,
As far as I know that Bedroom Tax is not proposed but is happening. So because of the area you hope to move to will you still be renting from a council or would you come under the HA that I rent from?
I don't like it, I have never heard anything good about them yet, in fact when I was talking to a volunteer in the charity shop the other day, he said much the same thing..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Never say never fuddle
I lived in a horrible place once and put my name on the housing lists down here ( and in a few other places I had only seen on holiday, like Oban and Fort William lol) and got told it would be a long long time before my turn came. I got a house in 5 months! It was a mess and needed totally decorated - but I took it and we did it. Soooo... shove it to the back of your mind but be positive too
I want to know kittie or Mrs L or anybody would would know - if my flour will go mouldy in a bottom cupboard in the kitchen? Its totally dry and cool but small and enclosed.
And the year I did home made sweeties for the family xmas was the one they all loved best, so I will do it again if I can find my ooomph which has got mislaid!0 -
Wow FUDDLE huge congratulations on being accepted onto the social housing list, even if you have a wait on your hands how much better is that for you and the family to have at your back. What a smashing thing, told you you were on the up!!!
How about making a few old fashioned baked things, would be a little bit different and perhaps slightly cheaper, love the idea of the packaging too, very pretty, and if my Nell is anything to go by the staff will appreciate the gift very much indeed!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.0 -
MAR - If the cupboard is totally dry and cool it sounds the ideal place to keep flour. Try putting one bag in for a couple of weeks and check it for mustiness, that way you won't loose your entire stock. You could hedge your bets and put the individual bags in a ziplock bag each which would limit damage just in case you have one bag go on you! Hope that helps, Cheers Lyn xxx.0

It's North Yorkshire and all it says is it's members on the choice based lettings system is Housing Authorities, District Councils and a City council. I guess it's up to me whether I choose a 'council' house or a HA house. Is there a difference?MrsLurcherwalker wrote: »

Funnily enough, I've just taken delivery of a new book that is cram packed with old style cakes and biscuits.
The carrot cookies are a must to try!

I think that I prefer councils and you do remember that few if any voted for the abolishment of the councils across the North East and they did not want the housing stock transferred to the HA. I still think that many wonder how it happened.
I think of HA's as a kind of half way house between a council and private landlord."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

I wish DD6 school would do that, the competition is incredible, beautician appointments, dinner for two at posh hotel, weekend at country cottage, beaverbrooks vouchers the list is endless.
I did try one year to run a put a pound into a gift for teacher each - thinking we could buy a lovely bouquet and some next vouchers - but all that happened was they did the pound then bought a gift as well.
That's crazy! A few years ago someone ran a collection but the old head nixed that one, he didn't want parents feeling obliged to give. actually I didn't give, as I had made a present!0 -
Well, my poorly little catto was put to sleep this morning, at home, peacefully, by a really kind and gentle sympathetic vet. It went just as I would have wished, and now my main feeling is one of relief, as I had been slowly saying my goodbyes to him for a few weeks.... I will miss him like mad, but in good time will be glad to give another rescue cat a happy home, as I still have his (large, stripey) brother, who will need a companion, and I know all the rescue places are full to bursting, and will only get worse this winter.
Love to all of you who are wrestling with far more challenging lives, you are such a help and support, as well as a source of useful (and occasionally useless!!) advice and hilarity, I really appreciate this thread every day. xxx the cake xxx0 -
The cake - hugs x.
I'd have more moggies if I could, so many on the local cats sanctuary web site that need a loving home but our 5 are handfull enough right now.
I'm having a right old "meh" day and fear the wine will be making an appearance along with something comforting for dinner.
But the sun is shining so :j
