  • I really miss having a cat
I would like to miss all the live (and dead) stock that they bring in though! I'm pretty fed up of catching their mice friends in the middle of the night - no way to sleep through two cats chasing some poor mouse around, with many thuds as they hit doors at either end of the hallway.

I also don't care for getting up in the morning to feathers and "bits", or coming home from work to feathers and bird poop and a slightly tatty thrush perching on the bathroom window.

And don't get me started on the mole they let loose behind the dressing table ...:rotfl:
  • Hello ROSIEPP - Oh the joys of pet ownership!!! Nice to have you with us. My youngest DD has two putty cats and they bring her home lovely mouses, sometimes still alive, sometimes not but they've never given her a whole mole, do you have to do something special to get one of those? Cheers Lyn.
  • how on earth do I start sorting my wardrobe? I don`t work and I don`t often go to fancy places these days. I do go to a village function every so often and I will go on a coach holiday. I have no intention of cruising and will not be going on expensive posh holidays. I visit the children, cycle, shop, do the allotment and play with grandchildren

I have lots of clothes, several lightweight things suitable for going out in hot places. Lots of m and s t shirts and I live in bon marche t shirts at home as they are so comfy with my cotton lightweight trousers. Cardis, woollen jumpers, chunky cotton jumpers, long skirts, lots of unused (bargain :rotfl:) shirts and lots of those tunics that chunky women wear. I am under 5` and an 18/20 so getting clothes to fit is not easy

I started tonight by putting tops and trousers into outfits on one hanger but I had to stop as my mind is boggled

I want to sort this out tomorrow. Help!!
  • Hello Mrs LW
If I did something special to get a mole, I only wish I knew what it was. I certainly won't do it again! They are really hard to catch to get them outside again (particularly when they are behind the furniture) and such funny looking critters.

It didn't do much good (getting him outside). I found him dead in the garden a couple of days later. I guess, given the squirrel-eating talk, should wonder here what he would taste like ...

I've got one posh-day-out outfit, one funeral outfit, and three scruff-around-the house outfits. I cant stand having loads of clothes :) But loads of nice warm socks and jackets.
When we kept hawks & owls, people for miles around knew and used to put game and roadkill through the letterbox to help us feed them. (I took in rescue birds from the police). One day I came home to a mole walking up the hall trailing a carrier bag with him... :)

:) For many years a stray cat hanging around my Nan's bungalow (undeterred by there being an incumbent mog) used to seem to be wooing her with gifts of his prey left on the back doorstep. This is on the edge of a village with only fields beyond.

Here is an almost complete list of Blackie's presents; squirrels, rats, a mole, mice (several), a baby wabbit, lots of woodpigeons, a rind off somebody's boiled bacon joint and what at first seemed to be a dead pheasant but was actually a live-but-stunned one which came to life as she watched it and took off through the hedge like Roadrunner.:rotfl:

It went on for years. The Incumbent Mog passed away and Blackie moved in. Sadly he had to be PTS last year due to an inoperable cancer, but he had the life of Riley for the last years of his life.

Cats; strange beasties indeed. Ours is not to understand but merely to admire and work the tin openers. Preferably for salmon or tuna, I've discovered.

My aunt spent ages regaling me of the tale of their kitty. Apparently they went to bed and slept all night hearing funny noises, next morning a ball uf fluff hopped out from under their bed. Turns out kitty had caught a frog, stunned it and left under bed, said frog had come round and been trying to escape all night!!

Our two boys would struggle to catch a cold, they are just to soft and lazy, our lady though is a hunter and spares no prisoners and refuses to share either (thank goodness - OH would never recover from dead mouse in shoe).

ETA - forgot our boys have apparently taken up urban hunting ie the neighbours kids take them home and feed them tuna pasta bake!!

A few years ago I came home to find a water rail (bird!!) in the sitting room .... cats must have hustled it through the cat flap, never did work out how ... it was blimmin HUGE and had very sharp toenails when I released it, completely unscathed. Cats did have the grace to look a bit sheepish.
  • KITTIE - I live in Bon Marche Tshirts and jeans and have several heavier sweatshirts and gilets for really chilly days. I have 2 pairs of good trousers and several respectable tops, I go out to 'occasion venues' so seldom that if I do buy anything fashionable, it's usually antique before I get to wear it a second time!!! I reckon that I have enough to wear that is everyday it never gets too worn, so I always look kind of OK, well clean at least.

ROSIEPP - That is the most OS thing I've heard today, and surprisingly I don't have a recipe for mole - I must try harder!!!!! Cheers Lyn xxx.

going back to the instant custard; if youdon't want to make a full packet, say only need one portion, take 2 dessertspoons and add ¼ pint boiling water, mix and then add a touch more the bring level back to ¼ pint mark.

I empty my packets into an old b!rds instant jar which has the measurements on the side as it is easier for the boys if they want to make a portion.
