Fuddle I remember survivorman (les stroud) I think it was trapping and eating one but if memory serves he said it was mostly bone and not worth the effort.S'pose it'd keep the dog fed tho :D
My neighbour has a cat who's forever bringing her presents I get phonecalls almost daily to dispose of dead bodies!
  • FUDDLE - Grey Squirrels are traditional old fashioned country food, particularly down here in the New Forest. They had a special throwing stick, weighted with a big knob at one end and would throw en-masse at the squirrel in the expectation that one stick would knock him out of the tree. I've even got a very old fashioned game cookery book with a recipe if you would be interested. Cheers Lyn xxx.

  • Hi...everyone. Hope I haven't missed anything been MIA again.

I've just had a two day visit from one of my oldest friends and her OH. I've known her since I was in my early 20's. When she told me her son was 47 this year, my jaw hit the floor. How did that happen  Anyway I feel a bit bereft now she's gone. It's the first time they've been to see us since we moved to Wales, as they are abroad working a lot of the time. She's 'one of us' so had good moan about the state of the world, the price of food, and what will happen to the youngsters.

Talking of youngsters, I came on her to post a link to someone's blog I saw the other day, as those of you with littlies will find some great craft projects here to try: http://www.filthwizardry.com/2009/07/fairy-houses-and-fairy-wings-for-your.html check out all the blog though, cos' there's other great stuff too. We loved the autumn leaves laminated to make into fridge magnets, and it's got us thinking about other things you could do. ('we' is me and DD as we were asked at work if we could think of some craft projects lay on at half term to do with kids)

Anyway. In the market yesterday the new free range chicken bloke was selling a 'stock pack' of chicken bits I've got a nearly 2k bag for £2.98 and it looks like loads of meat in there, so today I'm going to boil that up for soup, and pick the meat off! I've also got a whole load of aubergines from my neighbours smallholding (welsh aubergines :rotfl:) which I want to make a brinjal pickle out of, I made some last year and it was the first of the pickles to go, so definately want some more!!! It called for three tablespoons of chilli in the recipe and I've made a note in the margin that I wasn't brave enough to stick three in so only did one and a half, and then I've added later that it was PLENTY hot enough for us :rotfl:

Byatt, Apologies if you already use the Carers UK forum but I wondered if it might help you....they seem to have a lot of knowledgable people on there who may be able to advise on your benefits - save you venturing in to the bearpit which seems to be the benefits board on mse! Much as I love this forum that is one scary board.
I would imagine there are quite a few people on the Carers UK forum in a very similar situation - hope it helps and best of luck xx
  • Thanks for the link Mrs Chip- great website.
