    Aargh that was freaky!
Yes it has to be real, it's like living in Antiques Roadshow here. DS does really value stuff though. Just I reckon in a couple of days he'll be able to get one for half the price of today's. I'm not totally sure if I'm right restricting him spending his own money, but I'm doing it anyway.:o

Fuddle hun you're either mad or a saint lol I think the thought of a sleepover scares me more than the gasmask..
  • Hmm yes we watched Dr Who here tonight, both the new one and an older one with the last dalek. When the dalek died DS cried. Seeing a theme here?! Sigh.

pops the magazine my eldest would like is £3.90 very week. She can't have it, simple. Kids magazines are a big business in themselves.

P, I think you're teaching DS valuable money lessons. Yes he has the money but we all know that value for money is much more important than feeding a whim. He'll be alright ;)

Valkscot, Im presuming you do the washing machine bit with the fleece still in the pillowcase? so you dont bung the washer up. It sounds ok and I dont need as much faff if Im just using it as stuffing do I?

Yes, sorry, fleece in pillowcase. It has to be the kind of washing machine with a program that goes straight into a high spin too, no long periods of flicking it around. You can use a clothes spinner of course or just put it on some sort of rack where drips don't matter, like a greenhouse. It does take a fair time for fleece to dry properly though, it's good at holding moisture without actually feeling that damp.

After if you're just using it for stuffing you won't need to card or comb it. You should "pick" it though, this is basically pulling it apart with your fingers, opening up any stuck together lock tips and fluffing it up as much as possible. A cat slicker brush is ideal for opening lock tips.

Incidentally a meat fleece breed will be ideal for stuffing and should cost you peanuts, or even free. Don't pay more than the cost of shearing, currently about £3 per fleece. Meat fleeces have shorter coats without pronounced lock structure and will give a sproingy and resilliant stuffing. As a spinner I'm not so well up on meat sheep breeds but Texel springs to mind, they're common enough. Even after washing, when the fleece has lost it's lanolin and any dirt or dust you should be getting 2-3kg of usable stuffing per Texel fleece, enough to fill a couple of decent sacks anyway.

Wow, im going to have the best quilts and cushions in the world, once I source my fleeces. Thank you Valk for the great advice and info. My washer does that cycle and I never thought of drying stuff in the greenhouse :j:j You know Im going to end up trying felting too though as you use roving for that and it wouldnt be as if Im wasting huge amounts on special roving - have you seen the price of it in the craft shops

PAH I have pm'd you too. Ginny, I had a brainwave (I hope!) about free parking at the big Go Outdoors store and possibly Central Retail Park across the road. Otherwise next free parking really would be Asda at Eastlands, I think.

I am gearing up for my celebratory flapjack :D. Oh, I shouldn't have said that - I'm off to bed and I've made myself peckish ....

Love all the talk about the fleece of sheep, that would be so warm...

Shows how out of touch I am :p £3.90 a week:eek:I worry that I will not be able to afford the magazine I still buy but it gives me all kind of tips and websites to visit on the internet(£4 a month)but I don't buy tv mags, newspapers and nothing else. Wish we could have a free newspaper through the letterbox that is one good thing about riding on a bus/train they have the Metro.

When I used to go on holiday years ago I always collected the newspapers other passengers left behind as they got off the train at King's X and then had lots of free reading matter for later and no doubt the staff on that station still get all their papers for free:)

To think my "Pop" mag probably cost 50p(don't know if that was a lot of money at the time)and my pin ups were probably groups like The Monkees.:rotfl:

I shouldn't have but I spent £13 on shopping tonight but because I avoided the taxi both ways that means that I actually saved £6 on top of that...on the other hand you could say I actually managed to get more shopping for my money so I spent less in reality. Hopefully, what I purchased will last a few days and not be seen as luxury items...Is that a lot for a single person...I don't know...

The meal I am doing now I think comes in at around £1.50 but it's all I have had today...sometimes my meals are cheaper...I'm doing belly pork, potatoes and casserole vegetables...but I already had it in the fridge/freezer so I did not have to buy it. I'm using the slow cooker so at this rate I could be eating it for breakfast!
