Well, managed to grab an hour on here before Lisakay arrives with her 2 DDs, we're going to dismantle several large pallets I managed to scrounge from a neighbour to use a edging borders for veggies on the lotty.
Have already made 3 individual hotpots from last nights casserole with just a little extra gravy and half a tin of value carrots, got some pasty that had been lurking in the freezer that was left over from some baking a couple of months ago. Aim now is to gradually work through the freezer til it's empty then restock in meat and veg for Christmas.
Have decided to buy invitations for our Silver wedding because I just haven't got time to make them, but will be starting soon on Christmas cards - when the rest of the years birthday cards are finished that is, oh and a silver wedding card for OH.
Have got to finish little knitted hooded jacket for DGS(1) and a huge cross stitch sampler for DS that I started about 6 years ago, promised he'd have it framed for this Christmas but don't think that will happen now. Also want to make little fasvour boxes for GDs and nieces and nephew to hang on their christmas trees and make some more Chillililli for some extra little pressies, along with several christmas cakes, mince pies and shortbread for people with various allergies. Busy few weeks ahead..me thinks!!
Pooks...I really hope your cat comes home, they're part of the family aren't they? xx
Lisakay..............get your skates on before I start something else and forget all about the pallets!!!!!!!!!0 -

What a great idea, almost makes me wish I could do more than very basic sewing but unless it closes as my clothes last years and they only cost me 99p each and are just shirts/jumpers/cardigans I don't need to do much of the above and without being sexist I think it is still mainly something females have to do more...
The worst thing most men have to do with their clothes is replace a button, stitch up a tear though in my case I usually need my trousers shortening.
It's a shame we're not nearer each other pops, i'm a dab hand with shortening, have to do it for OH and DS all the time. Also used to do odd bits for the residents when I worked in a residential home.0 -
Anyone after fabric could also try car boot sales and freecycle. Lisakay got 3 large bin bags full this week from freecycle, all very usable too, just waiting for my share as I want to make some lavender hearts - when I've sorted the dried lavender out...0

Morning all
Not posted for a bit, but have read, cos it's been manic here! Worked all last week, out with workmates Friday night (all paid for by work, spent not one penny, very OS :rotfl:), DS5 was ill all Friday night, so we're cream crackered and having a quiet Sunday!
I'm going to make a curtain for my landing window from an old !kea fleece that's already been cannibalised, will sew some ribbons from my stash along the edges to pretty it up.
I'm the other side of the hills from you lot meeting up in Manchester - wish there was someone this side to meet up with! Enjoy your chinwag girls!
My favourite cold remedy is hot blackcurrant squash with soluble/dispersible aspirin added, works a treat! SiL swears by hot lemonade or Lu***ade, adding a drop of whisky if available.

That would be lovely(even without your kind offer)I think I said some way back I may now cheat and use an iron and that Wunderweb stuff or fabric glue but the trousers I have will hopefully last years. What may cost me some money is having two jackets shortened(I picked them up for 99p each at the CS)
I have sewed some track suit type bottoms up on the legs but haven't quite worked out the kind of stitching to do and you can see what I have done so I may take the thread out and use the Wunderweb again..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Currently sat here not really knowing what to do. When mum phoned she said dad was much worse in hospital. He was so bad last night he wouldn't let the nurses call mum in, apparently he didn't want her to see it if he died. He seems to have settled some now, but lord knows what's really going on.
She's told me not to fly back right now, since they still don't know what's really going on. And I can't stay indefinitely, so he could be ok while I'm there... Or if I go and come back, then he gets worse, I can't fly repeatedly... not at around $2500 a trip.
So really I'm just here to moan a little, since I'm not able to do anything practical right now.
Oh, and in other minor news, a bird crapped directly on my head. They say that's lucky, but I wasn't feeling it.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

I'm in the Skipton area so depends on whereabouts in W. Yorks you are we might not be too far apart.
For cold remedies I swear by Sloe brandy and hot water or Bene and hot (Benedictine and hot water) - I lived in Pendle for a while! where they drink some 75% of all the bene produced, and I can believe it.
OK - must go and get the stew on for tonight. Catch you later.0
