Been looking around sites on the net, what a lot sell food and what would be seen as luxuries and all reasonably inexpensive but in bulk. Not necessarily sites selling items past or near their expirity dates...

But being single and on a limited budget I would not gain buying nor can afford to. What a pity there are aren't more groups of people getting together and buying items(if there was storage space for goods, some kind of central point)and sharing the savings during these difficult times...

Have you found any good bulk buy sites pops? I would like to buy more in bulk but normally the postage costs and the higher initial outlay put me off.

DH didn't win any pennies today fishing. Never mind, the sun was shining on us yesterday :)

Off to go lie in the [STRIKE]bath[/STRIKE] puddle, put my onsie on and treat myself to a horlicks. Anyone done a milky drink using watered powdered milk?

My dad always uses powdered milk. Old habits die hard I guess.

Actually, NHS Direct reckons it's pretty rare this year, not exactly an epidemic anyway.....and the rash is discreet so I'm still fit to be seen out in impolite society ( means you lot are ok anyway) :rotfl:

Celeriac Soup From River Cottage Everyday - Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall

And I thank you because I've forgotten just how much good stuff there is in this book ;)

    50g unsalted butter
    1 large celeriac
    350g leeks
    100g potato
    1 onion
    2 garlic cloves
1 litre veg stock (or chicken)
    100ml double cream
    salt and pepper

    melt butter
add celeriac, leeks, potatoes, onion and garlic, season. Sweat for 10 mins until veg softens.
Add stock. Bring to boil. simmer 25 mins
    Puree soup.
    Reheat gently.
    Check seasoning
    Stir in the cream.
I just love that book.Every recipe works.

You know I did and I'll have to try and find the links again...even Amazon is quite good and a few people on MSE buy from there but basically you would be buying say a carton Brevita Breakfast biscuits and they'd work out at approx £1.50 each for ten so you save roughly half of what you pay in the shops if sold at full price but that's still quite a lot to find initially.

I won't buy them at £2.49(back to the original price in Tesco's)but did get some whilst they were £1.25, they now gone back up in price but the Kellogg's one's are reduced in Sainsbury's at present(they are still doing the Brevita range reduced too)
It needs to be something you use and like and adding the p/p into the equation has to be a consideration...but if a group of people got together it could work...

On the other hand it looks as though Aldi are starting their own range of a similar product and their's are priced low already.

So you got your Onesie afterall;):)

I should have a hot chocolate/milk shake/Complan sometime rather than waste them. They've been in my store even before Mum passed away(they were originally bought with Mum in mind...anything to make Mum better or more comfortable but milk isn't that cheap is it and it all adds up. But doesn't everything over the year.

Hey, just for a ride out next time I get one of those bus tickets that last for a week and you can ride anywhere across the county I'm going to take McColloch's advice and ride all the way to Peterlee and maybe do a big shop as she said all the shops I use are near the bus station and if I take the shopping trolly:)

Don't think I have ever been there before, think it comes through your village too...I'll give you a wave sometime as I pass through:rotfl:

That's a thought and a way around using lots of milk...especially as I have some of the own brand cheaper variety...thanks...

I still have to eat yet but don't know what to have...too late to defrost any meat. May just have the standby salad or cheese sandwiches...
