The EV tinned peaches were the fruit part of my cobbler. Fuddle it's very easy - mug of SR flour, mug of sugar, mug of milk, mix together in your heatproof dish, throw in a drained tin of peaches, cook in oven. The fruit sinks to the bottom and you get lots of oozy stickiness.
GQ may I just say that when you were talking about eating the tiddlers at first I thought you were talking about slugs? I blame it on brain mushiness with DD's excitement over Strictly and X Factor in one night. I can tell those long winter evenings are going to just fly by. And earlier DS was playing christmas music for over an hour, with Boney M repeated 5 times. Very festive.
I'm afraid I don't like mushy peas at all, except in v posh places where they seem to be made with frozen peas! But marrowfat peas, not on your nelly.0 -
Oh GQ, you have not tried MY mushy peas :rotfl: I make them every time we work, a big potful. They are very popular, I am told 'the best' - the customer is never wrong :rotfl::rotfl:.
Peasy to make and a cheap as chips (actually cheaper)! That's a teaser, can we see the recipe, pls? I've been in your town before so should I ever roll that way again (unlikely but theoretically possible), I'll be on the lookout for the chip van and will try them for myself.

Even the SAS wouldn't eat slugs.............! Nasty things. One of them made the mistake of crossing my path (literally and figuratively) today but I had a spade in my hand and an evil gleam in my eye. It's cannibal brethren are probably chowing down on it now.
I do that kind of thing all the time, esp with newspaper headlines as I bowl past on the street and misread them into something more interesting and bizarre than they actually say.Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

The making of them barely constitutes a recipe -
Take a quantity of dried peas (I buy 12kg sacks), and soak overnight in double quantity of water with heaped tsp of bicarb for every 8oz of peas.
Next day, drain and rinse, put into a pot and just cover with water. Simmer until soft and mushy, a good stir at the end helps with the mushing process. Season with salt and plenty of freshly ground white (or black) pepper. Add a spoonful of mint sauce if desired.

Oh great! Thanks for sharing. Will try to find some dried peas (visions of me picking 'em out of my broth mix :rotfl: )
Peach cobbler on the menu tomorrow then... I've got my mother and sister visiting for DD's birthday next week :eek:0 -
I think you can get Whitworths dried peas in small packets, they come with a soaking tablet I think. They won't work out as cheap as buying in bulk, but are much nicer than the tins.
You can freeze the soaked peas, handy to have ready to cook when you fancy them.Think big thoughts but relish small pleasures0 -

Tesco's 49p for 250g - I don't know how many portions I'll get out of that but worth an experiment.0 -
Just caught up again. Sorry to all of you with bad times and seemingly insurmountable problems.
You may remember my baguette mountain. Well, all over this island there are freezers with a few more baguettes in them than owners had bargained on. Bless all our friends.
My ex-dining room now has another freezer in it - full of baguettes atm
Also full of the contents of the Rev's study. She is having a new desk on Monday and has promised me that now she will be able to keep her room organised and tidy. Mmmmm. I might be more impressed if I thought that she had the faintest clue what 'tidy' and 'organised' actually meant.
I am very thrilled. The treasurer of our Drop-in was there when I was unpacking some of my AF order into the food bank. He was asking about AF and when he discovered that I had been paying for the food I got he was appalled. So in future I only have to give him the bill and I will be re-imbursed. :j:j Although I'm not struggling as much as some of you, I do only have my state pension so hardly rolling in it. I am pretty delirious just now.
GQ: Suggestion I have just read.
1. Collect a bucket full of slugs.
2. Wearing rubber gloves, peg each one to your washing line.
3. Watch as they wriggle and sway gently in the breeze and dry out and die in the sun.
Comes from a book called, "50 Ways to Kill a Slug."
Hope it helps.;)
